My friend thinks she has one but refuses to go to a doctor. I told her not to drink cranberry juice cocktail, but she doesn't believe me, and thinks it will clear up on it's own. What can she do? What can I do to help her?

First of all cranberry juice is good for uti's. sometimes they will clear up on their own and sometimes it will get worse. She needs to drink nothing but cranberry juice and water. No carbanation like cokes at all. Why won't she go to the doctor? all she will have to do is pee in a cup and then they will give her medicine in a pill form to take. Maybe if you go with her she will go. It can get more serious if she doesn't do something about it soon.

More then likely NO it will not clear up on its own. She needs to only drink cranberry juice strat not mixed with anything.. She can also go to the store and see if they have any homepathic treatment for uti if she doesnt want to go to the doctor. I was the same way when I had one and ended up in the hospital for 4 days on ivs so she needs to be smart and do the right thing.

If she goes to a doctor she will have to swallow just 2 pills a day for only three days and she will be completely all right. Ask her if 6 pills in all is really so difficult to swallow? If doesn't get treated and gets a kidney infection, she may have to stay at the hospital. Ask her which one would be more uncomfortable.
By the way, cranberry juice isn't proven to be effective and it is no substitute for antibiotics, which are extremely effective (almost 100 % cure in 3 days) for UTIs.
