Okay, so I work at a Grill and Tavern and I am 17. Well, I work with quite a few hispanics, and most of them are either married or in a relationship. They will say stuff like "muy bonita", "chiquita" and "sexy" or "novia/sancha" constantly. I guess they think it is funny, but I don't considering they have wives and gilfriends at home. They are always trying to be oh so charming and gentleman-like which in any other situation would be flattering if they were not attached. I just don't understand why they act this way...and for some reason my co-workers find it "cute" and see no problem with it, and it makes me wonder if it is "innocent" like because we don't speak the same language. I'm wondering would it be the same as an English speaker working in another language country and doing the same thing--would it be seen as okay? I just don't understand this, four of them to be exact have even asked me out, and some say over the top innuendos which are absurd. Can anyone explain?

They also like to pat or rub my back, poke me, etc. I of course say "tienes esposa/novia" but they don't seem bothered at all. I am not trying to sound racial, I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this and why does it seem accepted at my workplace. I know that nationality/ethnicity/race has nothing to do with cheating/flirting..it is the individual..I just wonder why it seems so prominent in my workplace. Thanks! :)

FYI I love Hispanic men, just as long as they aren't married and treat a lady with respect.....just as any man I would expect that from.

This is a violation of the work place, it's called sexual harrasment if they don't stop poking you when you tell them to. Tell your boss how you feel about it. I f he does nothin then i subjest you quit the job. You don't have to stand that kind of behavior in the work place.

Hispanic men are some of the worst. I had the same things happen to me from as young as I can remember. Men my grandfathers age saying things to me on the street that shouldn't have even been said to an adult women. They have no decency what so ever. It makes me sick. I'm an adult now and still have the same problem. The man at the pizza place calls me beautiful a hundred times in the 3 minutes I'm in there. He's been saying it for 7 yrs now. I'm sick of it and most times dont get the damn pizza because I dont want to have to deal with all the customers looking at me all the time because of this guy. They have no class. I wouldn't date a Hispanic man if he was the last man on earth.

Yes, hispanics men like to flirt a lot. trust me Im one of them. I just think is something about the culture and customs in hispanics countries. In our countries it is normal for a guy to say nice things to a girl who is pretty. We call them "piropos". In english i guess it would be 'compliments". Dont take it wrong we are not perverts we just like to appreciate the beauty of the opposite sex or should I say ladies. In the other hand, if they cross the limits they are being bad n if u r offended u should tell ur boss. If they are married or in a relationship they are just being nice to you just like any other guy would say a compliment to you. if they arent marry or arent in any relationship they probably like you a lot. hope this helps. my english is not that good so im sorry if i have some mistakes. hablo mejor espanol. if u want to ask me something else about hispanics email me littlewalt88@yahoo.com

Calm down sweetie, odds are it is not JUST you they are flirting with. You say you don't want to be racist but that is exactly what your doing. My take on the situation is that you have lead a little sheltered life under mommy and daddy up until now and really have no idea how to deal with adult situations. If you feel that uncomfortable, find a different job. I seriously doubt any one is actually hitting on you, its just that they know how naive you are and are kind of making fun of you. Don't be so uptight. No matter what mommy and daddy raised you to believe, your Hispanic co-workers are not going to "de-flower" your sparkling white maidenhead.

These hispanic men want to do you. Plain and simple. If it bothers you, you should complain to the manager.

What you are describing is sexual harrassment.

If the manager does not do anything, or at least make a reasonable effort to stop the harrassment, you can sue the restaurant.

It's what you said. It's cultural. Being flirtatious is a big part of Latino culture...for males and females. It's the same way in Mediterrean cultures. As long as it's flirting, who cares? Would you be bothered by a flirtatious white guy? As long as they aren't looking to hit it with you, just take it as a compliment.

Sounds like a cultural thing, but not the most admirable part of the culture. Gentleman of all races act on same wavelengths, if you have class you have class, regardless.

Yes Hispanic men are very flirty creatures that is why I adore them myself but no one should make you feel uncomfortable at work or poke you tell a supervisor so that person can leave you alone

I bet they're illegals!
You shouldn't take that kinda SHlT, especially from a bunch of no good, burrito eating, border jumping wetbacks!

Men can act like this. Be firm saying no, and
NO TOUCHING ALLOWED. Mean it, and report it
if they don't stop.
