A lot of Help...What does this mean????

A guy I know gave me his guitar pick and told me that he had something important to ask me, but didn't know how to bring it up. Does he want to ask me out? If so, what is a nice way of saying no, because you love him like a brother? Would it be bad if the reason is because I like his best friend? If I were to go out with his friend would it affect how we are just friends and friends only?

Say "You're a great guy, but I don't think we're right for each other. In fact, I like your friend, and it wouldn't be fair to you if I weren't honest about that."
