You need to message to:
+614042270XX
So you ad the 61 and drop the 0 from the front of the number.

you need to dial it as +61 then drop the 0 and didal the rest of the number
i.e.
+614042770xx
will work but be aware that some contries will only let you send short text no more than 3/4 of the normal length of a text, whats that about 120 characters.
this is due to the difference in the overseas providers capabilities for sms.

Hi so long as you have the plus sign and then the 61 country code your on your way to sms'ing that person see link
