does anyone know of any grants that might be available for equipment for mounted patrol officers?

Check with the COPS Grant if this is one of the allowed components of this grant. This grant is administered by the DOJ and you can read more about it from their website http://www.cops.usdoj.gov/Default.asp?Item=34 Eligible recipients include law enforcement offices

Most grants would be state or federal grants that cover a wife variety of equipment needs. It is then up to the department to propertly distribute the various moneys they recieve.

But most police departments have someone that checks on regular basis of grants and programs, I would check with your department supervision

I don't know of any grants but alot of tack shops and feed stores will often donate items to mounted police units. Check with your local horsey stores and see if any of them do.
