There are 2 kinds of UV (ultraviolet) light, UVA & UVB UVA is the kind that gives the good tan, and doesn't cause cancer. UVB just makes u burn, then causes cancer. UVB is the kind used in tanning booths because UVA can't be controlled to make a lightbulb. So why do tanning booths say "better than the sun? WHy can't they just be honest and sell sprays instead?

As other posters said, it's about the almigty dollar. People think they look better with a tan, and until people get that idea out of their heads, there will always be a place out there to go that will give you a nice brown dose of skin cancer.
Too bad.

All forms of ultraviolet radiation are believed to contribute to the development of skin cancer. There is no "good" tan.
Why sell sprays? Because the demand is for the tanning beds! Supply and demand. Most women and men that go to tanning beds are doing so knowing the risks. just like those who smoke, eat poorly etc.
If there is a positive to tanning beds, it's that you can control the amount of exposure. This is not so with the sun. Plus, you do get Vitamin D.

It's called "supply and demand." When people stop going to tanning beds, they'll go away. People don't look at the long term effects, but just at this moment in time. Most people, young and old, don't think things are going to happen to them...like getting cancer from a tanning bed. That only happens to other people. Also, like others have said...in this country, it's all about the almighty dollar.

They are all just trying to make a buck! That's why. Tanning salons are killers just like the sun causes skin cancer that kills thousands of people each year. My husband, my mother, my niece and me have all had a skin cancer removed. My mother was the only one that was melanoma, and thank God it was removed in time. I cant believe tanning salons have not been shut down by now!

UVA rays don't burn, they destroy collagen and cause aging.
This is why people who tan often or work in the sun look old at a young age.
