i own a year old golden retreiver and have been training him on fetching waterfowl. i have worked him pretty hard and he fetches the fake duck when i tell him to. but i went out hunting last weekend and he wouldn't fetch any of my ducks. What did i do wrong?

good grief...were in the heck do people get these answers from. LOL..

Seriously, duck scent?? maybe that why i am not a good duck hunter.

Presuming you have trained him over water to fetch the fake duck. He grew accustom to the water and surroundings. One thing you can try is before the hunt toss the fake duck into the place you are hunting and get him to retrieve it. Then, he might go for real ducks. Doubtful though. You might need to use a real duck once or twice. Say, late in the hunting hours...show him the duck and toss one out into the water like you would a fake-duck.

I am not a duck hunter but I try to help :)

Maybe he doesn't want to put a dirty, smelly, parasite-infected, bloodied bird carcass in his mouth.
