i grew 5 ..star of david okra in containers this summer. they got about 7 feet tall and produced pretty good. i use all kinds of free containers. the okra grew in 5 gallon paint buckets , old ice chest etc. the other things that did well were various types of peppers and broccoli. I have tried tomatoes for 2 years and they did not do well each year. the only tomatoes that OK were small cherry toms. But i admit that i did not use the best soil , but i did fertilise ,etc. But the okra grew very well. i live in central Florida.

Personally, I prefer my okra small, fresh, and sauteed whole. My dad eats the canned kind just like a side, sometimes mixing some corn in with it. Is it the kind in tomato sauce? If so, it makes a decent addition to stew, or even just serve it over rice.

Chop up then fry up about 3 strips of bacon. Once the bacon is almost done, add half of a chopped onion to the bacon drippings. Saute until wilted. Add 1 or 2 cans of your okra, adn 1 can of diced tomatoes (I like petite-diced). Toss in half a bay leaf, and some pepper or Creole seasoning, and let simmer about 30 minutes. Taste for salt and pepper, adjust seasonings, and serve.

Taste good with Chow Mein or stir fry. Adding the okra thickens the veggies in their sauce.

this has nothing to do with your question, you answered one of my questions & don't take this to offense, I just hate when people irrelevantly answer my question and then don't know what they're talking about. Just because you've been with trash all of your life, doesn't mean everyone else's boyfriend will be like yours... & you CAN love someone you've been dating for only four months...I've known this guy for a little over a year now...so yes, I DO love him....& if I only did know him for four months, doesn't mean I can't be in love with him...some people fall in love faster than others...you can't say what is true for you is the same for others silly girl.... I trust my boyfriend, & plus it's not like he's off away at college, it's right down the street! HA!...just because your life sucks doesn't mean you should try to put your sucky emotions on someone else too...to make them feel like you...

Just use it for vegetable soup, add tomato sauce and throw in all your favorite veggies like potatos, cabbage, tomatos etc... maybe meat like ground beef if you want.
