It sounds a bit suspect, If I were your friend I would want professional advice on it.

He may have a form of autism. My youngest yells "chicken", walks only on his tippy toes (his legs are nothing but muscle). He also has facial twitches. As well as other health problems.
His exact diagnoses is Aspergers Syndrome. There are quit a few sub symptoms he has the ADHD,epilepsy, some of the others.
Kids who have this may not have the same sub symptoms or a different combinations. They are special kids who do not take well to yelling, screaming, social situations, can be VERY smart in certain things....also mine seams to hate change (don't we all though). I quit working and he is on disability. Now I am here when he needs me at the school or whenever he feels insecure somewhere he can call me and I can either make it better over the phone or I can go to where he is at....
Turrets I believe is a sub symptom...This is where they have twitches...and yell out inappropriately.
Go get him checked out, my son just went to a counselor for what the school was calling a behavior problem. He was not having anything but frustration over the school not helping him properly. This has been changed....
Good luck with him !
BTW I will not have him on drugs, only thing he takes is his epileptic medications to control the grand mal seizures...

You lot, that are saying ADHD - do you know anything about it? I think not! Just because a child cant sit still it doesn't mean they have ADHD!!! It could mean all sorts of things. Dont throw assumptions at the poor child. Learn your facts. ADHD is far more complicated than just not being able to sit still. If i were you, and your friend is worried about him I would seek professional advice, dont let this lot make you paranoid! Good luck x

it's not ADHD..becuz thas wa i have and it was never like that ever......I know this sounds weird but 90% of what kids under 7 say is very nearly ignored completely....so the throwing up of the arms is a exasperated gesture that he's seen done by someone close to the family. he does it because he's frustrated his opinion isn't taken into account I KNOW you'll disaggree because when he does it, it's not tied to any reason...but you'll find by talking with him, he hasn't forgot whatever the issue was. even if he DID forget why he's upset that doesn't change that feeling he has. silly? maybe...but at least it's an alternative to putting him on the pharmacy-approved version of crystal meth and being suprised when an addiction arises. kids are cool. talk to them like adults and they'll suprise the s*** out of you.

Sounds like a normal kid. I would maybe get him involved in a lot of physical activity. With the world being more fast pace and media (TV movies music) leading our daily lives it's no wonder our children are hyperactive. It could be ADHD but please don't jump to that conclusion and don't let doctors put him on medication right away before trying other things.

He is a kid. Kids have lots of energy. Unless he is hurting himself like falling off the bike then he will probably grow out of it and become a good little tv watching internet addicted zombie like most of us adults.
There are a lot of schools now who are recognizing that kids are fidgety and sitting still for too long is not natural for them, so they are increasing recess and letting them fidget during class. ADHD is over diagnosed and starts a bad habit of drug taking too early.

my nephew is the same when he tells you a story of any kind or what he did with his day he walks around in circles throwing his arms everywhere, he is the same when watching t.v. or when concentrating on something!!
all children are different some stick their tongue out when concentrating, others fidget!!
tell your friend to take her son to see the doctor to put her mind at rest and ask for tests for A.D.H.D and tourettes syndrome which are very slightly connected, if you have one then you have slight signs of the other!
hope everything is ok!!

My son is 6 years old and has bouts of being hyper...it is a phase that boys go through at that age. Just because a kid is busy and does little quirky things once in a while DOES NOT mean he has a disorder!!!!!

Well...It could be a lot of things. The not being able to hold still could be ADHD (Attention Defecit Hyperactivity Disorder) and the arms could be terrets.

He may have ADHD. But to be fair a lot of young children can't stay focused on one thing and stay still for long periods of time. If at any point it intereferes with his education she should take him to be evaluated.
