At least one to two weeks. And don't let her push you into doing more. She has bad manners.

I just recently had a friend go through this same problem, only the tables got turned and the woman took her daughter out of the daycare without giving my friend notice after my friend had been agonizing over it for weeks.
My suggestion, tell her as soon as possible to give her time to find another day care, and have a pre-established time as to when the last day will be.
I would give her at least two weeks notice though.

Even though she has been grossly inconsiderate of you and the agreement that the two of set up. ..I would still give her at least two weeks notice. Have you given her warnings in the past due to her lateness and payment problems? If not speak to her about your concerns and irritations....warning her that you will no longer be watching her daughter if it continues. Be frank with her let her know what you expect and stick to it. Let her know that this is her last chance or she can make other arrangements.

If this was just a normal job, I would say two weeks. However, because she is your friend, and even though she is taking advantage, I would assume you want to salvage the friendship. Childcare can be extremely difficult to find, so a month's notice should do it. It's not only polite on your end, but it will give her a chance to find somebody new. If she's driving you crazy and you think it's worth ending a friendship, stop whenever you want!

If you have a day care business, and your friend signed a contract, go by the contract. Otherwise, explain to her what you've just said and that you rely on her payments being on time. Tell her it's nothing against your friendship but business is business and you're giving her 2 weeks notice to find someone else.

I would give her a month's notice. This is enough time for her to find other daycare services and to pay off your bill. She is taking advantage of your good will. Time to end it.

2 weeks a month tops. She is taking advantage of you. Tell her straight that you aren't doing it anymore. Give her your reasons. Maybe even find another friend.

minimum 2 weeks - just like in any job. 30 days would be the best, however nothing past that otherwise she won't find something else. ihope you're able to maintain the friendship!
