My office is having their annual holiday party in the office this year. We are catering lunch and we have been asked to come up with ideas to make the event more fun and enjoyable. We're about 60 employees and not everybody interacts much with one another on a regular basis. We need ideas that will make the party fun without getting out of line. Unfortunately, drinking is out of the question since the party is a luncheon and we have to continue with our regular work day afterwards.

It's the Season for Giving
Most people like to give to charities during the holiday season. Make it easy for your employees to do so by setting up an area at the party where they can donate non-perishable food items and unwrapped toys. These then can be gathered and donated to a charity or two in your area.

Celebrities
Everyone writes the name of a celebrity, famous person or character on a piece of paper which they stick to the forehead of the player on their left (use tape or office Post-It notes). Make sure they don’t see the name.
Everyone else can see your forehead. The objective is to work out who you are.
Going around the table, each payer takes a turn to ask the party questions about who they are - answers can be YES or NO only. If you get a YES you may continue asking, if you get a NO play moves on to the left.
Last person to guess their name is the loser.
Simple, but very absorbing.

I Have Never
Each person receives several counters (toothpicks, pennies, etc.)
Then take turns around the circle. Each person tells of something they have never done (example: I have never broken a bone or I have never traveled out of the country). Anyone who has done this must give the speaker one of their toothpicks or pennies. After going around the circle several times, the person with the most tokens wins.

VIDEO
Videotape the guests arriving and mingling during the party and play the tape toward the end of the party along with a section of tape showing the accomplishments and goals that have been achieved throughout the year.

DOOR PRIZES
Door prizes can enhance a corporate function, but shouldn't be the highlight, so while it's fun to have a few, don't go overboard. They can range from something simple to something really really expensive--it all depends on your type of party and your budget, but no matter what the cost, it always fun to tie them into your party theme or pick things that you know will be a hit with the crowd that will be in attendance. To help cut costs, consider asking your company's suppliers to donate items to be used as door prizes or see if you can get permission from company management to award an extra personal day off as a door prize--you know that one will be popular!
Ways to Give Out Door Prizes:
Announce Prizes throughout the evening:
Prize goes to...
Parent with the most children
Person with the youngest child
Person who can recite a particular nursery rhyme or poem from memory without making any mistakes
Person with the most pennies in their wallet/purse
Ring a bell--Person who can get a specific item to the speaker first, such as a red lipstick or a ballpoint pen wins a prize
First person who can find (choose item) in their purse (or their date's)
Lady with the tallest high heel
Person with the most buttons on their clothing
Person who gets the 53rd drink at the bar
Pop The Question:
Blow up balloons after inserting small pieces of paper that say "prize" on one or two, putting blank papers in the rest, and tie to each guest's chair. sometime during the event, ask people to pop their balloons either by sitting on them or using their forks, to see if they've won.
Using Tickets or Numbers:
Have tickets ready ahead of time and someone appointed to pass them out.
For smaller groups, you can make door prize tickets by cutting out shapes from construction paper to go along with your party theme, or make up your own door prize tickets on your computer using address label settings as a guide. For large groups, you may want to purchase numbered tickets.
Place a ticket under each plate at a meal, and after people have finished their meals, ask them to lift their plates and see if they've won.

HO, HO, HOLD YOUR TONGUE! – Give each player a bag or stocking with 10 small treasures in it (candy, chocolates, little fun favors). Have bags labeled with players' names, so they don't get mixed up. Let players know at the start of the game exactly when the game will be ending—this game can be played throughout an entire party if you so choose. The object of the game is to catch fellow players saying one of the following words or phrases:
SANTA, REINDEER, SNOW, CHRISTMAS, ORNAMENT, PRESENTS
To help players, post the words prominently on a board where they can be seen often. If someone is caught saying one of the words on the list, that person has to give up a treasure from their stash. The player with the biggest haul of goodies at the end of the game is the winner! This game is always a big hit

CHRISTMAS BINGO-Make up Bingo cards before the guests arrive. Draw a grid, then fill in with things related to Christmas, mixing them up for each card. For example:
• "Never finishes shopping before Christmas Eve ."
• "Has a good chance to end up with some coal in that stocking ."
• "Hates eggnog."
• "Only pretended she/he couldn't find mother in-law's ornaments for the tree trimming."
• "Knows what he (or she) is getting for Christmas."
• "Returns at least one gift every Christmas."
• "Ate too much at the office party."
• "Bought a new outfit for tonight's party "
• "Has stepped foot in an actual manger ."
• "Knows the ingredients for figgy pudding."
• "Would be willing to sing 4 bars of a Christmas carol right now in front of this group." (then make them prove it!)
Etc. Using construction paper, colored carboards or notecards, design cards to match up with the items on the grid. Hand out the cards to your guests, along with a handful of small Christmas candies. Pick a card from the pile and read the statement on the card. If anyone can answer "yes" to the comment, they get to put a candy in the square. The first person to connect five in a row wins a prize.

PINATA FUN– piñatas can do double duty—They'll hang as decorations until you are ready to use them. A universal favorite!

NAME THAT TUNE – You'll need a CD player and some compact discs with compilations of Christmas songs. Play the first few bars, and see which guest can name that tune the fastest. Keep track of points and award the winner a Christmas music CD. If your group is large, play a variation on this game. Using famous Christmas and holiday songs, list song titles on one side of a page, and the original Artists or songwriters on the other side. Make enough copies for all guests. Challenge guests to match as many as possible. A challenging but fun adventure!

CHRISTMAS TREASURE HUNT- Divide guests into teams or couples, and give them a list of Christmas-related items to locate, either in the house or around the neighborhood. Include items like: a candle, a religious Christmas card, some mistletoe, a Christmas cookie, a broken ornament, a burned-out tree light, a Christmas stamp, some tinsel, and a few pine needles.
Or if you want to keep everyone in one room, make this into CHRISTMAS CONCENTRATION instead.
Gather these types of items yourself onto a large tray. (the more items you can fit on the tray, the better!) Hand out pencil and paper to your guests. Then give your guests 1 minute to look at everything on the tray. then take the tray out of view. Next, have your guests write down every item they remember seeing on the tray. The person who can remember the most items wins a prize.

GIFT-GIVING GAME - Great for Christmas Parties and Exchanges! Everyone brings a gift to the party, this is fun for gift exchanges during the holidays. TO BEGIN: Everyone stands in a circle holding the gift he/she brought to the party. Someone reads the story, every time the word RIGHT is read, everybody passes his gift to the right. Every time the word LEFT is read, gifts are passed to the left. The gift that each person is holding at the end of the story is the gift he keeps.
Story Example:
The Right Family Christmas Story Christmas was almost here and Mother RIGHT was finishing the Christmas baking. Father RIGHT, Susie RIGHT, and Billy RIGHT returned from their last minute Christmas errands. "There's not much LEFT to be done," said Father RIGHT as he came into the kitchen. "Did you leave the basket of food at Church?" asked Mother RIGHT? "I LEFT it RIGHT where you told me to," said Billy RIGHT." "I don't have any money LEFT." The hall telephone rang, and Susie RIGHT LEFT to answer it. She rushed back and told the family, "Aunt Tillie RIGHT LEFT a package for us RIGHT on Grandma RIGHT's porch. I'll go over there RIGHT now and get it," she said as she LEFT in a rush. Father RIGHT LEFT the kitchen and brought in the Christmas Tree. By the time Susie RIGHT returned, Mother RIGHT, Father RIGHT, and Billy RIGHT had begun trimming the tree. The entire RIGHT family sang carols as they finished the decorating. Then they LEFT all the presents arranged under the tree and went to bed, hoping they had selected the RIGHT gifts for their family. Now I hope you have the RIGHT present for yourself, because that's all that's LEFT of our story, except to wish you a Merry Christmas, isn't that RIGHT?

Holiday Party Games For Work

How about a white elephant party? Everyone brings one gift, the more zany and outrageous, the better. Everyone draws number, the person drawing #1 chooses a gift and opens it. The person drawing #2 can either, pick the gift that #1 opened or can open another. We limit the number of times any gift can switch hands to three...Really makes for a lot of entertainment.

Usually, a few people bring "regular" type gifts, which may change hands a lot, but there are some really funny ones also, I ended up with a humping toy dog one year.

Awesome game that always gets ppl laughing is things in a box, and you don't even need the game to play it. The basis of the game is theres a question like "name something you wouldn't celebrate" and people have to write down their answer and put it in a hat like "a funeral", then the reader reads off all the answers and you guess who said what. If you guess wrong it goes to the next person to guess, if you get it right you get a point and keep on guessing. It's really fun, and you find especially after a few drinks the answers start getting pretty funny and intresting since people are trying to write something no one would guess they'd ever say.

We did something fun at an "In service" last year where we work. This could work for you at your party.

A staff member sent around a questionnaire with about 10 questions on it. Most of the questions were "personal" in that they asked about likes, dislikes, etc. Staff answered the questions, then she did a "matching" game where we had to match the statement with the person. We were allowed to go around and ask our co-workers. We were free to answer as we wished.

For example, one question was : Tell me something no one knows about you. You may get a lot of interesting answers, but we found out that staff had been to Pompeii, someone had flown plane, one staff went as a gypsy girl for trick-or-treat (a male staff member). She also asked questions like: What was the last book you read, and so on. The winner won a small prize.

You can also do a Christmas trivia game. Maybe set up in "teams" to answer them. Winners get some prizes- small prizes like snow globes or whatever you guys like at your workplace.

There is nothing very "physical" but it may lighten up the atmosphere and everyone can "play" and have fun.
