Pender - W 40 (KO's 20) TF 48 - W pct 83% - KO pct 42% - wins over Robinson[2], Downes and Basilio - KO'ed by Downes, G. Hairston and J. Beau (both average/unknown fighters)

Monzon - W 87 (KO's 57) TF 100 - W pct 87% - KO pct 57% - wins over Benvenuti{2}, Griffin[2], Napoles, Valdez{2} and Briscoe - KO'ed by none - #40 ranked puncher - #11 ranked fighter

Pender was a decent to good fighter. In this fight, I pick Monzon in 15 rd unanimous decision that would leave the public disappointed because they would have wanted Pender to mix it up more but if he had Monzon would have KO'ed him.

Another great question Brent! Wow I believe this would have been a really tough fight as Pender was an outstanding boxer good enough to beat Sugar Ray Robinson twice and Carmen Basillio so in no way would this be an easy fight for the legendary Monzon. Monzon had an extremely good jab, a sledgehammer right hand and a sturdy chin too. This would be like a chess match with many rounds about even in this fight. I believe that Monzon wins a narrow decision in a very tough fight.

I hate to jump on the bandwagon, but I have to go with monzon in this one. It would be a great stylistic match-up, but I would be apprehensive about giving the bout to pender because of his tendency to bust his hands. I think this is a similar answer I gave to your question on pender vs haglar a few weeks ago. Thanks for all of the good questions, brent. Keep em' coming!

monzon controls the action with his jab. when pender tries to penetrate, he eats too many right hands. paul has brittle hands & at times a brittle chin. monzon stops him in 10. thanks
