it is used to treat insomnia. it is supposedly non-addictive but its parent drug imovane (also zimovane) is now considered addictive after 17 yrs of use -- interestingly enough at the same time they came out with lunesta. it is only prescribed in the united states.

my understanding of any sleep aid is it doesn't allow you deep sleep -- just light sleep. your body needs deep sleep.

I would try using melatonin. its used frequently for insomnia and doesn't appear to restrict deep sleep like pharmaceuticals.

if you already have lunesta give a try for a month -- if it doesn't work for you let your doctor know. don't let him use you for a guinea pig though. you need something that helps.

It didn't work for me. If you have insomnia that is bad enough to need prescription drugs, I doubt it would work for you either.

If your insomnia isn't really bad, you shouldn't be looking at prescription drugs. Try Unisom, relaxation techniques, etc. If you Google for insomnia, you will find all of the mental tricks for trying to fall asleep.

I personally use the herb Valerian for sleep. It's non-addictive, inexpensive and non toxic.
