Hehe, I wouldn't say role models, but measures. I can compare myself to a lot of the OT folks (in the bad actions) History itself bible or not is full of people who were good but did bad stuff.

But, I would rather look to them as a role model rather than Bill Clinton any day.

You forget the guy who made it possible for man to sin, the guy who killed a bunch of people for laughing at a prophet, the guy who ordered thousands slaughtered for worshipping the wrong being, who slaughtered thosands of first borns and when the pharoah was ready to let the Jews go... hardened the pharoah's hard to drive the point home, the guy who was so blood thirsty that he allegedly had his own kid brutally beaten and murdered despite being innocent... I mean, if you had a book with a character like this who WASN'T supposedly God, he'd be the archvillain! And people WORSHIP this monster?!

The ONLY good role model, is TheG-D, to be Holy as IAM is HOLY. anything else is witchraft if continued leading into idolitry. there are both positive and negative preciepts in scripture. the lessons are to be aware of both, but not necessarily to participate in them. as one must be carefull about intrepeting what is written meant for prophetic teaching purposes either. since i knoticed your willingness to use someone elses misintrepetation for your own ulterior motive. and cannot comprehend why certain things must happen, in a world not true to G-D. and believe me this place is no GanEden. no where remotely can this planet be described as heaven on earth as it is in Heaven of Heavens.

N o, they are generally not good role models. I fact that is the point. The Bible is to point us to God. It does not have human superheroes, but shows us people with all their faults and quirks.
That is the difference from other religious books.
Edit:
I don't understand why so many of my fellow believers seem to find it necessary to be defensive. I tghink your question is quite legitimate.

The authors probably didn't intend for most of them to be good role models, but that in itself doesn't make them bad stories. One can also learn good things from negative examples.

That said, I think Aesop's fables are more valuable for teaching morality and good practices than the Bible.

Are those your ONLY choices for role models you can find? Or are you simply continuing your own private tirade against the Bible still?? LOL.

Btw, it was Solomon's dad, DAVID, who schemed to possess Solomon's mom, Bathsheba, who was married to Uriah the Hittite.

Peace be with you.

Of course, "good" role models are people that teach people how to live. There's no perfect person - and the Bible characters are perfect examples of that. Everyone has flaws. The Bible was written accurately - flaws and all. They're not there to be examples of "perfect people", but instead they're there to be examples of what happens when we do good or evil.

Noah's son "saw his nakedness" after the ark landed and Noah got really drunk. (That is a euphemism for sex... ha, ha.)

The God of the OT also does a lot of mean things.

If anything, these are good models for how one should not behave!

The idea that "no one's perfect" does not excuse those who offered up their virgin daughters or slaves to be raped, or other acts of evil.

Apparently, you're not a Christian. Easy to tell because you're picking & choosing parts of the bible without an understanding. Another character in the bible is Satan. Are you going to ask if he's a good role model?

yeah, some of the people in the bible were creeps, but nobodies perfect. i would say that Jesus is the only one in there that is a great role model. you can't accuse Him of doing anything wrong (or stupid).
