within the next three to seven days, i'm about to wear my braces. i would say that i did not bother that much to research on how braces going to affect my lifestyle... how it's gonna hurt while it's being put on, one week after, two weeks after, a month or so..., after adjustments had been made...

i would like to hear your experiences or sharings about having braces...

Anything sticky sucks (gum, Caramels, ect) . It gets all stuck in the braces. I had them for 2 years. Be ready for the first week or so to be really painfull (depending on how much they plan on changing your jaw). I was stuck eating soft foods for a week (asprin didn't help me at all), and after the first week I could eat solids, but nothing too hard. Each person takes to them differently.

Really though once you get used to them I'll be able to eat anything. Just stear clear of gum. If you need breathfreshenrs use tic tacs or something else.

Oh also watchout for the back of your mouth. when it's close to the time to change the wires, you may get stuck with the excess wire in your cheeks (I had this happen all the time). It hurts some, but not too bad. You'll be a little weirded out the first time it happens.

OH gosh, I feel sorry for you kid! Okay, these days, I had braces so long ago, I am 29 , they have all different kinds of braces so I don't know what kind you are getting but you can eat anything. I would stay away from really strong caramel stuff and stuff that could stick inside the braces if you are not around a tooth brush because that could get embarrasing! Good luck!

OK I'm still wearing braces and there OK but in the start when you get them there are more that pain full and the pain will last for 3-5 days and when you get them adjusted for the first time the are going to be pain full for only 3 days and then after when you go in to get them abjected the will not hurt you again . And after the first 3 days you will not even be thinking of them . There OK after all . But things are going to be getting stuck in between the wire . And sometime that is but off . And you cant eat anything hard do not push you teeth fast !! and when you are pushing your teeth push them only one way . not left to right , I hope this helped you . And there is noting to be scared off . And it dose not take that long to but them on . Best of luck in the further. And by the way when you are in pain you will not be able to eat any think . And i hope you like soap

gum is fine, it pulls on them a little if you chew really hard gum, so no gumballs but like orbitz is fine. Carmel and chewy candies suck just cuz they get stuck and pull on your brackets. you pretty much have to cut apples and pears up cuz they can pop your brackets off. If you bite your pens or pencils, get out of that habit! biting on them can easily pop a bracket off. The more brackets you pop off, the more have to be replaced and they increase your time with braces. Take a pain reliever if you have to get spacers put in, this for me was the most painful part of the entire treatment. No matter what though it is totally worth it. Good luck.

When I had braces they told me to stay away from anything sticky like carmels or chewing gum...but you can still eat them if you're careful and brush real good afterwards. I couldn't eat corn on the cob. I had to cut it off the cob. I also couldn't have a whole apple I had to cut them up in pieces.

you arent supposed to eat corn on the cob, or bit into apples or things like that, its just that they can pop off the tooth (i had one do that). same with hard candies, and gum (tho i chewed gum)

they will hurt at first. they told me as soon as i got them on to go to mcdonalds (it was next door) and get something to eat fast, and then get a milkshake cause thats all i would be able to eat that night. after a few days that goes away tho, until they tighten them, then it hurts for a day or so. its just like a bad headache, cause its moving your teeth, so it hurts your head.

feel lucky, i had to have a platial expander, the thing in the roof of your mouth you have to open with a key. my mom had to sit on my chest and turn it 2 clicks every day. i felt like my face was being ripped open, all the way down my nose and into my head. it hurt sooo bad, and i couldnt eat anything. (it was making my upper jaw wider)

Don't chew caramels (let them melt in your mouth)
Cut apples up (don't try and bite them whole)
You will learn - common sense, nothing too hard - could break them and tooooo sticky could pull them off.

Mostly, you can eat anything.

Yes, they will hurt. Usually when they get tightened each month. Just stop by and get an Icee with each tightening.

Good Luck and have fun with the colors (if you get to choose).

I had braces for 3 years back when I was a teenager. It really did not limit anything for me. Might want to avoid hard caramels though such as Milk Duds.
