i once read a children's book on judaism i can't remember what it's called though................

The Torah (First five books of the OT) or you can go to your local bible book store and look through their references. Some of the stuff is said not to be valid via translations era, so you would have to know how to read Hebrew.

I think there is a "Dummies" book about Judaism. I remember flipping through it and it was informative.
