Is there a download site or a person out there that could send it to me? It is not on my XPSP2 CD.I know that it is located in this folder in the other Microsoft Windows XP versions:
VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP.

I searched the Knowledge Base and could find only articles but no downloads anywhere on the Microsoft site.. At Softpedia.com, that has all the windows stuff, I could not isolate it in my search ; hundreds of programs and applications resulted for downloads. Yes, ofcourse I used quotes. I think it must be available and easily obtained, but I just don't know what I am doing wrong!
Please help.

^_^ vinh le ^_^: What would you recommend I use to back up? I am almost certain that when I had Windows 98 and ME, there was a back up program in them. Would that work? If not, is there freeware that is any good? If not, what software? Is upgrading to pro worth it? Thanks!

dreddful1: I am using Dell Dimension 1100
Desktop, which is a Dell System Model DE051. I wish it were an HP!! I had an HP scanner and printer, and they were fantastic!
Anyway, any suggestions? I have to reinstall XP, and I have no backup. Thanks.

All versions of Windows include backup programs—but they do not always install themselves by default (XP Home, for example).

To install the Windows backup program: Put the original installation disk in your CD drive and navigate to the folder called /Valueadd/msft/ntbackup.

You will see a file entitled ntbackup.msi. Double-click this file and it will install the free backup program. The free backup program will then appear in the Systems Tools folder (click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Backup). You can now put (backup) the data on another computer, another hard drive, or a CD.

SyncBack is a really good program. Below is a link to a Freeware site that you can download it.
here the link where you can download it.

frankly speaking there are a lot of free backup sollutions, but all of them have a greate minus - they don't have support, so if something goes wrong it's hard to find out what causes it

to my mind you shouldn't save money on such products, coz they deal with you data and as for me i must be sure that everything would be ok, so i recomend you to use True Image from acronis, it's a very good prog, i've already use it for 3 years and never had unresolvable problems. And you can get it for FREE on their site, but it of caurse wouldn't the latest version but it's very good also, all you need is to register, here is the link:

so it up to you what to choose Good luck.

what make and model is your computer?

- IF it is a HP (hewlett-packard) - go to Start - All Programs - PC Help & Tools - HP PC Recovery CD-DVD Creator - then follow the instructions (you may need a few discs depending on if you're using a cd burner or dvd burner)

If you're using windows XP home, there is no way to use back-up program included in pro version. You can use another alternative Or update to pro version.
