Can not just be supportive of the troops or our military, which ever word you prefer. Why is it so unpopular to think that the troops do a good job and are very important but that the people in command and in charge, not just Bush, are not doing a good job? I have seen so many postings that turn into a political debt. I don’t care if you hate the administration, MEN ARE DYING! That’s what is important! I understand that it, at times, can be a necessity but why doesn’t every one agree to limit the amount of men and women who are dying. Am I seriously crazy or is that not a good goal. (Rhetorical question, I’m not crazy.) Seriously I support our troops, I have family who has served and some who are over there now and friends’ husbands’. Can’t we all agree to get in, get it done, and get the heck out so we minimize our loss? By loss I do mean PEOPLES LIVES. It’s not just the life of the military personnel that is affected it is also who they know and love.

To: NoCtUrNo1o1- You know that’s not true a lot of people hire military people because they have discipline! I would never condone killing and raping women and children. I do however realize it is war. I know in Vietnam men had to kill kids who would walk up to them with bombs I do not think they wanted to but had to. Now for the raping well no, that is wrong but you can not generalize and say all troops do that! I want real answers not some skewed veiw.

I can think of three reasons for someone not to support the troops. First they could be morally against war and don't believe that anyone should be a soldier.
Secondly there is the popular image of the soldier as someone not too bright who cares nothing for the reasons for a conflict and just wants an excuse to kill and blow things up. If that is how you think about them you would be unlikely to support them.
Thirdly it is difficult to show support in such a way as not to seem to also support the politics leading to the war.

Honestly, the military command (including the President) and the military personnel want nothing more than to get this over and done with. Every time a time-line is set to start a slow withdraw the fight becomes more intense and we are forced to stay longer. You mentioned that you were also aware that in Vietnam soldiers had to shoot kids and women because they had bombs strapped to them. Well in Iraq the same things happen, I am sure you are aware of that too. The Army says about 2 years until the Iraqi police force will be able to take over, and the US will be able to pull out and just leave advisers to the Iraqi government. We will see.

Impossible to answer this without "being political".The administration believes we need to stay "as long as it takes" to limit losses. Which sounds a lot like "War is Peace" (1984-Orwell). There's no clear objective, no idea how long it will take, the original reasons(the reasons Congress voted to go) we went to Iraq don't apply. Believe me, I know how everyone is affected-my son's Dad was in Vietnam for 3 tours, heavy combat. He came home "safely" but was never the same, had a hard time being much of a Dad or husband. Many people believe bringing our soldiers home is the best way to "minimize losses". Politics and government and Life are completely intertwined.

Sadly, you have been hoodwinked by the formerly free American press and the USG. Research project mockingbird to see how the Press and USG have combined forces. As an Army Brat, with two brothers in active duty, I truly know that most Americans support our brave soldiers. The fact of the matter is, the people that "control" our military are corrupt, inept and useless, as they prefer catering to special interests and the elite instead of doing their part in making sure our troops are secure, well equipped and in high spirits. When the USG has to lie to its own military as to why we've occupied Iraq, IT SAYS A LOT.

While you, me and just about EVERY competent, logical Commanding Officer and other higher-ups agree that the basic strategy is simple and straightforward, this line of thinking goes directly against the current USG's strategy of confusion and misinformation. The only way we, the US, could have limited the number of total dead, was to overpower Iraq with an all out full frontal assault. As the USG prefers to wage cost-effective wars (while dragging out a billion dollar a week occupation), the common sense and logical solution was the exact opposite of the interests of the USG.

Sadly, until we can prevent the things most detrimental, like War, Drugs, and Crime, from enriching those in power, then war will always be a part of American life: be it a military war, war of ideals, war on drugs/terrorism, or the class war the USG desperately tries to hide behind the smokescreens of distraction (flag burning, homophobia, sexism, racism, etc..).

Notice how I blamed those in power, ACROSS THE BOARD politically. Democraps and Repukelicans are incestuous cousins, whose only difference is in the amount of fleecing and raping they will inflict on the American citizenry.

Of course we must support our troops. They are not the problem. They are doing a good job with very little help. The politicians are the problem. So are the members of the top echelon of our military. They all are big time failures. They underestimated to size of the problem, and failed to provide enough of the right equipment and the proper training for the troops.

We went to Iraq to look for weapons of mass destruction. Then our mission was to kill terrorists. Then it was to free Iraq, I guess, because a free Iraq, they said was "pivotal" to the freedom of the region.

I don't know. I certainly don't support them, however I am not of an American nationality, so I think you might not care.

What is there to support? I am also a part of the defence of my nation, though not in active duty. I can't see what "supporting" whatever that means, accomplishes. Supporting is accepting, and war is not something that SHOULD be accepted.

However, I wont get mobilized unless there's another invasion, and that might not happen... Yet, the 45 years I have left to serve in the reserve is a long time- In that same amount of time we've had a civil war, declared independence, fought two wars against Russia and the other "Allies" of WW2 and one against Germany.

I support out troops. Not just because I am a navy wife but because they risk their lives for us. They give up so much for this country, ans some people take that for granted. I may not support the war ( any war) but I still support our troops.

God Bless the Troops, but it is difficult not to get into politics, you got bozo media and fearless leaders like scary kerry stepping on his tail, and speaking out of his rear end, and then the rest of the population who believe everything they hear and make assumptions. (mostly they hear left wing oriented media).

I actually met a guy who believes they still do mad drugs in the military. He actually believed and said "everyone still smokes marijuana in the army." What an idiot!

I think the US military is comprised of the most selfless and brave people we have. They are the best America has to offer.

I support them in word, and deed. Many web sites show you how you can help.

Reading some of the ugly messages here, I'm not sure the rest of us are worthy of their sacrifices!

We have to do better and not trash the troops.

Some people aren't supportive because they don't believe in what the U.S. is doing in Iraq. They think that the Iraqi people should handle their own governmental affairs. However, I don't really know that much about current events; all this is just what I've heard. Personally, I think they should just bring everyone home immediately and stop the killings on both sides. I agree that it is the fault of all the people who are in charge.
