It pisses me off that some times I study so hard but the results are barely satisfactory. I have friends who don't work as hard as me but they achieve better results than me. Why is that so? It really brings me down. What is the best way to study and achieve good results?

There are a few different reasons.

1. their education prior to now....if they did well and understood the material they learned so far, they have an advantage. For example if you're doing physics, having a good understanding on solving equations before taking the class is really important.

2. if they have realized their best study/learning style.--some people write their notes over and over, some people just read over and over, some people make notes, some people go over problems and talk it out with a study partner, some people do well with study groups, some people do well studying alone, etc...

The best way to study is to pick a well lit, mild temperatured, quiet location. It is also important that you give yourself enough time to study. Don't try and cram the night before, as soon as you start a class you should start studying that night. If you learn as you accumulate information its alot easier than having to learn alot at one time. If you don't understand something ask right away. Write good notes, don't miss classes for stupid reasons. Get a study group, so that you can study with other people who are just as worried about taking the test. Get enough sleep, don't kill yourself studying, there is a limit after a certain point its not worth it anymore. Organize your materials, for a test, study all notes, homework assignments, quizzes, read the chapters assigned in the book, etc. Also make sure you eat something the day of the test, something healthy! Organize yourself. Ask plenty of questions!!

people are people, that's why. What I mean is, people are just different. Some people can learn things really easy, some take longer. The way you learn also varies from person to person. Some people are more visual, some more audio, other need to be taught "hands-on." What you need to do is find out how YOU learn best and use that as much as you can with studying. How is it that you're studying right now? maybe sitting down reading and taking notes isn't working for you because you're not a visual person. Try doing something like creating flashcards for your subject and get a friend or family member to quiz you.
Just work at finding which method of learning works for you and stick with that. Good luck!

Some people are just better at taking written tests. Do you feel like you "freeze up" during the test? You might have test anxiety. If you're really concerned about your grades, you could ask your teacher if he/she would give you an oral test. There are lots of websites that address test anxiety. Check them out and see if any of the descriptions sound like you.

If that doesn't seem to be the problem, maybe you're studying the wrong information. You'd be surprised how much information a teacher will give out about test beforehand. Ask what the test will focus on. A good teacher wants you to do well and will try to help you. Good luck.

Sorry to be blunt to you, but it's more to do wiht natural ability or affinity for the subject that has much more to do with this than simply how much you study.

If you have an affinity for the material you "get it first time" and you're away with it, seemingly without much study.

If you dont click then you've got to put in the long slog until either you do get it eventually (which you will) or you run out of time and you have to be happy you gave it all you could but the score you got is the best you could get with your affinity for the subject.

Some people can kick footballs, others can't -- same thing with study.

Perhaps you need to study differently. I am having the same trouble this semester, and I have come to the conclusion it is because I am not studying smarter - that is with more focus and less work. Perhaps you are not utilizing all the study tools at your disposal. Take heart, next semester you may bum other people out by seeming to understand the subject at hand without any effort while they struggle. :-D
