I have a Panasonic NV-W1 (or in the USA; an AG-W1). This is a professional VCR, which plays multiregion, SVHS etc. and cost big bucks.

It's not working - the power seems to be failing - I've had an engineer look at it who can't figure it out. Maybe someone who's more familiar with this sort of stuff can answer.

The problem is, I stick the power into it (230V) and it switches on and then off straight away. When you stick the power back in it doesn't switch on anymore apart from if you wait for a while (with this power cable not attached) will it switch on for a couple of seconds again.

If you have a good idea what the problem is, pls let me know.

Thanks a lot

you have a blown resister, so you are getting the full voltage to your board which is shorting out your player, the more you plug it in and turn it on, the more damage you are doing to the circuitry. You will need to use a fluke (multimeter) and test the circuits to find the blown resister/capacitor on your board. Once you find it, you can buy a replacement from radio shack, the color bands on the resistor tells you the "resistance" and it's a printed number on the capacitors.

If you are unfamiliar with electronics, I would take it to a professional and advise them to check the circuit board for a burned out resistor.
