The breeder's contact info should be on the pedigree that she gave you, as owner of dam..You do have a pedigreed dog, that for some reason wasn't KC registered. I hope you can contact the breeder and ask why, or if it is still possible..

Tou will notice from the "names" of the parents, that they are lacking a "kennel pre-fix". A kennel name is what tell you where, or what kennel or breeder the dog came from. Lacking one is usually because there wasn't one. IF there isn't one, that usually means BYB or puppy mill.
IF your dog wasn't registered with a reputable registry, there really is nothing you need to be doing. Every dog has a "pedigree". That is just a family tree. It means nothing about the quality of the dog or dogs in the "pedigree".
Your dog might be a purebred Bassett, but without registration of her and all the dogs in her pedigree, she might as well be a mutt since nothing can be proven. The lady could have given you papers from ANY dog. You cannot be sure the ones you have are legit or accurate.
Your dog should NOT be used in a breeding program due to that!!!!!! Hopefully she is spayed and she can be a great pet.

I could take a "pedigree" from one of my Newfs, and sell another Newf giving the new owners those papers. Does that mean anything????????

Good breeders give a pedigree with each puppy sold....spayed or not. That is just what should be done.

those names are not proper affixes. It sounds very much like either they are made up or they are typical puppy farm names.Puppy farmers are not allowed to register more than a certain number of puppys by a particular b1tch. If the puppy farmer has had too many litters out of one poor b1tch, they will not be registered even if they have a pedigree (probably all made up names in any case) all the KC registery is, is a certification that the pedigree is accurate and correct according to their records. Of course if a puppy farmer has made up the pedigree, the puppies won't be able to be registered.

If she is a basset hound, she will be purebred. She is purebred, just not kennel club registered. In all probability the pedigree you have is a work of fiction.
I don't quite understand what it is that you actually want to know.

some people think that the kc are not worth regisering with or the breeder may not have the parents registered so wont be able to register the pups kc papers are only needed for showing .your breeder hasnt done anything wrong if it clearly states on the pedigree not kc reg she hasnt lied to you & has every right to not use the kc if she wants kc papers dont make any differance to the quality of the dogs

Basset hounds are very distinctive and you will know just by looking if this is a pure animal or not.

Sometimes breeders don't register animals due to a fault, such as a colouration defect etc...but often they will register but place a clause stating any progeny from the animal are not allowed to be registered.

As such i wonder if one of the parents fits that bill and was KC reg itself but not allowed to register the progeny.

Of course a KC reg does not matter a penny if you have a fine animal and have no intention of showing it.

Why not ask the breeder why it is not KC registered- surely that would be the simplest thing? You should be able to establish who bred her by contacting the Basset Hound club of GB on info@bassethoundclub.co.uk

Good luck.

Sounds like you have a full blooded dog.

Maybe it wasn't important to the breeder to register the litter? Maybe the litter was registered and the dog you have was transferred to a new owner before you and the paperwork neglected by the woman you got her from.

Either way she is with you now and that's all that matters to you I'm sure.
A registration paper doesn't always make the dog a "better" dog. Papers aren't always important.

Hell, I can't find my birth certificate but I know I am an offspring of my two parents!

Has the dog been spayed? Breeders will not give out pedigree papers unless the dog has been done, it protects the breeder if you paid for a pet but then went on to breed with it.

Sounds dodgy to me.

In front of the names of the sire and dam there must be a Prefix, then you could trace the background. Without it you might not have a pedigree dog.
