In an earlier question I asked if the bible was the definitive word of God.Most said yes.
As that is the case, how can you worship a god that condones slavery, child abuse and murder?

Oh No here come all the taking out of context gibberish, but of course your question hits the nail right on the head. So of course Christians and quite frankly any person whos religion is part of the Abramic religions should be uncomfortable. After the Jews held slaves and had rules for the treatment of slaves etc, after they were supposedly released from bondage by God,the hypocricy simply is an overpowering stench. And the Christian doctrine is the same way, hypocrisy after lie after half truth.

the Bible does not condon any of these, in reference to slavery, it was the way of life when the bible was transcribed, God wanted the slaves to know they were loved as much as any, Jesus preformed the lowlyest slave duty when he washed the disciples feet. Spare the rod spoil the child does not mean beat your child, or they will be spoiled, it means discipline your child so that they can walk in the way of the Lord, murder, God never condoned murder, he made Abraham take Issac up to the mountain to sacrifice him to test Abraham to see if he had undying love for God, if he was Faithful to God alone, abraham was willing to do Gods. Issac was never sacrificed. Thou shalt not kill. People got killed because they, like now do not listen to God!

What u refer to about condonment of slavery, child abuse and murder is in the old testament.
The time whre we r livin is different. With the death n resurrection of Christ, the ancient laws has been abolished n a law of love has been established which does not condon slavery, child abuse and murder n otherr things u feel

You are trying to hard to find something wrong with the God of this universe. It is so plain that you only read the Bible to try and find something wrong with it. I worship a God that was willing to leave the glory of heaven and come to earth as a man so He could die for your sins. The only requirement to have your sins take away is for you to believe and trust in what He did for you. That is love. It is because of your sins that you think that God approved of child abuse and murder. Slavery was away of life in times past when God was dealing only with the Nation of Israel. He is not in the business of changing governments to please you. We have a free will you can reject the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for you on the cross but you will send yourself to hell. Don't blame God for that. Philippians 2: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: Philippians 2: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Philippians 2: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

God does not condone child abuse or murder(thou shalt not murder, ring any bells) and as for slavery, He does not condone it any longer.

there are different kinds of scriptures in the Bible, some are prescriptive, and some are descriptive.

descriptive scriptures describe what life was like then, laws that pertained to those days. If a woman doesn't wear a veil, that doesn't mean she is no longer a christian.

prescriptive scriptures tell us about what WE need to do, such as "repent, and be baptized"

What you need to do is read the Bible, daily, a little at a time. Start with the New Testament the Book of John, as you get to understand it a little better, an you get to know Jesus our Savior. You will get to understand the OT better as well. I found that a Bible Study is of great help as you will share your knowledge with others and they will share their understanding with you as well. God Bless You

You have to keep things in context. And take meaning without placing our modren thinking onto something written then. It is the word of God written by mortals a long time ago.

Because God says you're supposed to worship Him. It would be pretty arrogant to say, "I refuse to worship God because I find God morally deficient."

I've been told that human understanding is limited and cannot comprehend the infinite wisdom and compassion of God.

The living God prefers mercy over judgment.

What path will you choose?
