n Christianity and Judaism, the curse of Cain and the mark of Cain refer to the Biblical passages in the Book of Genesis chapter 4, where God declared that Cain, the firstborn of Adam and Eve, was cursed, and placed a mark upon him to warn others that killing Cain would provoke the vengeance of God.

No one knows. The only mention in scripture is that God told Cain that He would place a mark on him. And, it would be so that no one would kill him. But exactly what that mark was -no one knows.

The Bible does not indicate what the mark was.
Howevver, it did give Cain a measure of protection from those that would seek his life.

Genesis 4:15 - the mark is not described here - but it was identifiable by all who would see him. I would say it symbolizes his lifelong shame.

when Cain murdered his brother Abel, God set an actual mark on him so that he would suffer the consequences of his action, by being shunned by others.
since then this has been applied to murderers, especially of a brother.
