I used to buy a "natural" kind of PB from Whole Foods Market, which had to be refrigerated because the only things in it were peanuts and salt. But lately I've been not caring about all the preservatives and stuff and just buying the other kind (Jif) despite its ingredients... sugar, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, sodium whateveranate.. etc...
and the nice little label that reads "40% PEANUTS"

How bad is this stuff for me really? Is it bad that I eat around 4 tablespoons a day?

A lot of the brand name peanut butter's using icing sugar, some to the point where the icing sugar is the prime ingredient, not the peanuts. The flip side is that they do try to add things that are
good for you. Here's some nutritional info on Jif Reduced fat
crunch:

Notice that one serving supplies your body with 25% of it's daily
requirement for NIACIN. The recommended daily allowance of niacin is 2-12 mg a day for children, 14 mg a day for women, 16 mg a day for men, and 18 mg a day for pregnant or breast-feeding women

Niacin plays an important role in the production of several sex and stress-related hormones, particularly those made by the adrenal gland. It is also plays a role in removing toxic and harmful chemicals from the body.

4 tablespoons is 3 too many for one day
check the serving sizes and nutritional facts always it will tell u that about a tablespoon is about the right portion. it is high in protein because of the nuts and its really not bad for u until u consume too much! so as long as ur not chowin away at a whole jar of peanut butter and limiting urself its ok!
