Canada has always been a safe haven for Americans running from wars. half of my high school teachers in were draft dodgers running from the Vietnam war, there is even a book about an American hiding in Nova Scotia evading fighting during ww2. bookhttp://www.pottersfieldpress.com/books/hermitgully.html
yes there is a lot of Americans up here(if it is not on the ABC news Americans won't believe it), it nice that they feel safe here and yes we should let them stay.
hey buddy at the bottom, Canada has never, or never will need American solders, we don't start shi$ we can't finish.

Very few soldiers have gone AWOL due to getting orders to serve in either Iraq or Afghanistan, and even fewer of those are fleeing to Canada. It is an all volunteer service and the vast majority of them server where asked. Those that flee take some spaces of Canadians that move to the US due to better economic outlook leaving Canada with a "brain drain."

dane is very right. My husband is in the Canadian Forces and they can not be deployed more than 6 months out of a year and that is with 2 weeks home in the middle. Our men are not sent over if they do not believe in what they are doing or if their family will have too many problems without them. Both my husband and myself must have a psyche consult before he can be deployed to make sure that everything should be okay.

There is no reason that AMericans would go to Canada because there is no draft so you won't get in the army unless you want to. Secondly, no, if there were a draft Canada should not let them in as the people would be breaking the law by running.

Bah, I don't see that soldiers, whose duty is to protect the people- have to be a dog in the leash of the current administration.
Overseas military action should be volunteers only. Of course, it is different here since our constitution doesn't, by definition, allow sending soldiers against their will to other countries.
While, one could argue that it is part of protecting the country- one would have to prove it beyond reasonable doubt to the Officers' Union and other military rights groups. And still, it breaks the "inaliable" human rights as defined by the constitution.
Don't take me wrong- We have more military (serving as peacekeepers) than any other country per capita- and I certainly respect that. The pay reflects what they are doing, and they feel that their job is meaningful. However- after a year or less, they return either to their homebase or to civilian life.
The American military which is proud to be the most advanced army in the world, still lacks basic rights for its individuals, something that I, if I was a soldier wouldn't trade away for any kind of new mortar-launcher or GPS tracking system.

No, Canada should not allow illegals running from the law in through their borders, after all, these people are AWOL.
If they are conscientious objectors, they should inform their superiors that they are just that and follow the proper procedures, not run to another country!
This makes them look like cowards, not someone who in good mind can't follow the orders presented to them. As I mentioned, if they were legit, they would do the right thing, not the wrong thing.

"a wall" is the incorrect spelling, but that's beside the point. Since the U.S and Canada are allies why are these soldiers not extricated back to the U.S? Regardless of their belief in the cause they signed up to do a job. It is crazy to join the military and think that you wont have to fight.

First, the term is AWOL absent (away) with out leave....
Second, it is very rare in the American forces, as the US has an all VOLUNTEER military, they don't make you join.
Third, if they were to flee, and go to Canada, good luck, they face a life in which they can never return to the US legally, and 50% taxes for benefits they will never sniff.

As a Canadian, we have soldiers sent over to the war as well. Many not returning. I don't think leaving to Canada is the answer. However, I am all for letting people in the country. We need to grow.
NOTE: We all knew what he meant by a wall (did you really have to correct him?)

A handful of losers have gone to Canada. I say let Canada have them.
The next time Canada needs American soldiers we can tell them that they already have our deserters.
