Debbie e recipe should give you nice chewy ones, but I've always found that melting a mars bar very gently works well or use cooking chocolate rather than eating chocolate as this has a very soft texture to it too. I like to add raisins and glace cherries too for an added treat!

The ingredient that everybody leaves out and so get crispy cakes that shatter all over the place is DRIED MILK.St ivel 5 pints is ideal.
This works really well with cornflakes as well.
I forget the exact quantities but i think it's like this:-

4oz butter
4oz dried milk
4oz golden syrup
4oz cocoa powder

Melt the butter, add syrup and melt together, stir in dried milk and cocoa.Cook for a couple of minutes til well combined.
Add crispies or cornflakes till all well mixed and coated. It is difficult to say how much crispies or flakes to use so just add till the look right. The mixture should be quite stiff at the end.

Using cocoa instead of just melting chocolate helps as when melted chocolate cools again t is brittle not gooey.

2oz of butter/marg-couple of spoons of golden syrup and most of a bar of chocolate-melt together and stir in rice krispies-pour into a greased glass dish and leave to chill in fridge. make a topping with two mars bars and the rest of the chocolate melted together-either dribble or cover the top-leave in fridge to harden again!!

If you're talking about Rice Krispie Treats, try using either Fluff(marshmallow spread) or a bit more butter in your recipe. It should make them more pliable and not as hard.
