I had a puppy die from that a long time ago. The vet told me to clean all the carpets in the house with a very mild solution of bleach, clean all the floors with bleach. As far as the yard goes, don't know how to disinfect that. He said I'd be better off getting an older dog/puppy that's at least had a few rounds of the vaccine as well. So sorry for your loss, that's an awful awful disease they get. Mine got it from the shelter she was at, ended up killing off all the puppies and a lot of the dogs at the shelter. I think I heard they'd lost or had to put down about 80% of their dogs/pups. Good luck!!

I personaly wouldnt bring a new puppie in my home untill it has had a distemper shot and then 3 weeks later get it a distemper booster shot. And then I would bring it home. But befor you do any of that. BLEACH your entire house and surrounding yards.
Distemper virus can last up to 2 years in one place.
Your last dog got the distemper virus from where ever you take your pet to go pottie or your yard. The Distemper virus comes from bird poop. Or you may have walked the virus into your home on the bottom of your shoes.

We used straight bleach on the dog runs after distemper and parvo. Smells really bad, but kills the virus.
Be sure your new dog has been immunized before taking him home.

Bleach and water. Even in the carpet cleaner.
I would make sure to get an older dog that has had all his shots and a good immune system working for him.
