because fashion is supposed to be fun and glamorous...and it would be boring if you saw every day people walking around up there now wouldnt it? where would be the glamour in that? i say we keep the skinny girls up there and keep the fat cows where they belong.....ANYWHERE but the media....

I agree witha lot of comments from other answerers (?). I agree that It's just an art form and people have this notion that that's what you're supposed to look like or whatever. I have seen a few fashion shows on television and magazines and most of their stuff isn't what real women would wear. Mostly only bimbos like Paris Hilton, that don't do much except show off themselves off, would wear that type of stuff. Real women and real beauty exists only in the eye of the beholder, I am a big lady and I am sort of put off by all the slack big people get, but, we are what we are. I'm lucky to know that there's a lot of people that matter in my life that love me even if I'm not 115#...so that's what I think matters.

lol htats why if i ever wanted to model i would be a underwear model! look at tyra banks. shes healthy and curvy. and none of the other victoria secret models are stick think and they have thier butts, boobs and hips still and are not skeletons. but i agree wiht you. they are starting to put a ban on the models thohg. in madrid a while a go the models had to get their BMI taken and if they were underweight then they wouldnt be allowed to walk. i heard even naiomi cambell was too thin and even she couldnt walk down the runway. its good thet they are starting to change slowly but surely. they are giving younger people a bad example of what a "perfect model: shoudl look like. they should look liek the victoria secret models not high fashion models.....
i watch the tyra banks show sometimes and she said the average woman in the u.s. is a size 14 and is 5'4".
the average model is close to 6' tall and weights only around 115 pounds.
its sad =(

I saw a special on this and Isaac Mizrahi answered the question...He said that just as there really is no market for some of the outrageous things found on a runway there is no real market for the outrageous models either. Fashion more of a show a form of entertainment. Anyone with any common sense would realize that real women wearing real clothes are reality.

high fashion and commercial modeling are two different things.
high fashion is all about the art of fashion. it inspires the commercial looks. it's mainly runway. the designers want girls who are skinny to model their clothes because they don't want the model's bulges and curves to get in the way of people seeing the fabric. they're kind of like walking hangers.
commercial models are allowed to be average sized. they do magazines and billboard stuff. they're not the one's you are complaining about though...
also, many high fashion models that i know have always been skinny. very few have an eating disorder.
AND THERE IS A MODELING JOB FOR EVERY GOOD LOOKING PERSON!!!
plus-sized models are like commercial models, but thicker. there's also alternative modeling (punk/goth/etc), artistic modeling, and many others.
not all models are "superskinny". that's only a few. most are the average commercial, plus-sized, etc. models.

I just wish that they would at least stop with all the airbrushing!!! I don't expect them to not cover up a few minor flaws, but to transform the person by hiding an extra five pounds, or adding a cup size, it's lying! If someone is good enough to be on the cover of a magazine or catalog, why do they have to airbrush it?

The fashion industry has this warped idea of beauty. They think skeleton skinny is sexy. I believe they are almost completely alone in this regard. I personally like some meat on my woman's bones, with a nice set of bouncy jugs to go along with a big old back.

they can if fact they are in the process of doing that . All it is is that skinny models have no problem fiting into anything and sometime the camera make you put on some weight and sometimes it is easy to gain weight or not if they have a problem but i is hard to drop the pounds

well cause then we'll but the skinny people out of jobs. I happen to be naturaly skinny and looking for a modeling job, so I'm not saying that it's compeletely wrong, but they should put a couple decent people on there.

because people are morons and want to look at "beautiful people" well, they have put weight regulations on models, so they cannot weigh less than 115 pounds (or something like that)
