Very much so.

When someone is down and out, you'll notice they will become more faithful in their religion. They will pray more, hope more, etc.

Did you know that when the economy of the country starts dipping, church attendance goes up?

An ex-girlfriend once asked me-- "how can you not believe in god? I do. You have to. I don't know what I'd do if he didn't exist."

That's a big crutch.

Maybe for some people, but I don't think it is a crutch for the majority of believers.

I think most people who believe in a religion find it as an enhancement to their lives, and a source of support during trouble. In that sense I guess you could call it a crutch, but crutch has a negative connotation. Some people need the comfort they can get from the scriptures.

A crutch is something that an injured person uses in order to walk. Without the crutch, the injured person would end up either not being able to move or possibly injuring themself more when trying to move.

Relating this to life, we all sustain emotional or spiritual injuries. With religion, we have hope for a better future and for forgiveness. This hope helps us to walk through life and by living by religious principles such as love your neighbor as yourself, we keep from injuring ourselves in the future.

Yes, I guess religion is a crutch.

You speak as if a crutch is a bad thing, but it is not. It is a means for the injured to adjust to life.

well it all depends how u want to see it... if u ask a pastor he will say no it not because of this thing called "FAITH", if u try to find scientific explination to it... of course it all looks like a crutch.... so it all depends on the amount of faith you have becuase faith makes u a believer... so where do u have your faith placed on religion? or on whateva that is that you believe? U decide and then let me know if it's all a crutch or not.

i think it is. they say if you go you won't be poor cause god provides( I know people in the ghetto been going to church for 3 generations and they're still in the ghetto. Why cause instead of spending their money on food they'd rather pay tithes to some church) and how many people do you know that don't find some religion when they get locked up, but i bet when they get out they're right back to their old tricks.

You know at one point the bible was used to enslave people and it's doing the same thing now. just in a different way. instead of enslaving their bodies it's enslaving their minds.

It is only a crutch for those who only come to God when something is screwed up in their lives, instead of worshiping Him "in spirit and in truth" each day.

It can be used as an excuse to not make decisions. The thing with religion is Its exactly what YOU make of it.

Nope. It would be easier for me to live however I wanted if I didn't believe in God. For me, being a Christian means that I can't kill people I don't like, I can't steal, I can't lie, I can't have sex with whomever I want, and I can't get sloppy drunk every night.
Not that I really WANT to do that stuff...but still. This life would be easier if I didn't believe that there were consequences when I die.
