This question is for guys only!?
Okay... so my boyfriend told me that he has been thinking about proposing to me, but he hasn't found a ring yet and says that he won't until he has one. I told he that the ring is not what makes a proposal special, it's the proposal itself and that he is willing to make that commitment, and the love of course! Anyway, my question is... what is the deal with not having a ring yet (like why would that stop him), and how soon do you think he will actually do it, considering the holidays are coming up and all?

I'm not worried about when he will do it, I wasn't really concerned about a proposal of any kind anyway... I'm just wondering what kind of thoughts may be going through his head... but I'm definently not being impatient... to be honest I didn't think anything like this would happen for atleast another couple of years.

I think you're right to say and do whatever you think will make him more comfortable proposing to you. Most likely, he's extremly apprehensive. No matter how many times you say it's no big deal, he will probably still feel that he needs to impress you.

On the other hand, he could just be making excuses to postpone it, but it sounds like you believe him, so I will, too. Tradition is the only thing stopping him from proposing to you without a ring. And believe me, it can be a real hassle trying to answer to everyone who will ask "where's the ring?" if he proposes to you without one. Just because you are okay with it (and I really respect that!) your parents, friends, relatives, co-workers, etc. will all have plenty to say when you excitedly tell them you are engaged and have no ring to show for it.

Long story short...be supportive, be happy, and be patient.

My advice is not to be too impatient. Part of the excitement of proposing is having everything organised, the ring is a symbol of his promise to you and that should never be overlooked.

In addition, from a girl's perspective...........doesn't half the ritual of proposing stem around the presentation of the ring during the most romantic moment of your life and the showing it off to all your friends afterwards so they can gawp in jealousy?

Is he really wanting it to be perfect?
Most guys don't care about perfection. how many men are actually involved in the wedding planning?
Have you been dating long? (more than 2 years)
the longer it goes the more status quo it becomes
Are you sure he is not stalling?
Holidays, are you good with his family?
Why don't you propose to him?
This is happening more often today and if you cant at least you know the feeling is having about it.

He probably does not feel it is right to propose without having a ring. This is the 21st century so maybe you should consider proposing to him with a pair of rope rings or something equally inexpensive.

hey give the man a chance, he is trying to really impress you. SO if you really love him you can be patient and wait. What's the different if your wearin a cheap looking ring right now to have a ring that people will admire when they see it. So give the man a break and you can wait, For he wants the proposal to be very special for you and for him

Maybe he wouldnt want you to go around saying that you were engaged until he had the ring to save you and him from the humiliating " lets see the ring" when you mention it. He will get you one as soon as he can afford it, or when he sees the one that means what he wants to say in glitter. Who really knows but him, we can all give good answers, the ones you want or dont want to hear, and even the nightmares you fear...but its his answer that makes the difference. Outright ask him....then finish him off ...Happy landings

Sounds like a good guy who is trying to do it the right way and make you happy. He probably mentioned it to get your reaction....a little fear of rejection maybe. He will do it when he feels the time is right. Be patient and let the guy do something special for you.

Let him do it his way. This is his big moment. Even if you have to wait until after the holidays, it's more important that it's done right, than done quickly.

A better question might be to ask yourself why you're in such a hurry.
