Because the truth of the Bible has not diminished with time. The Bible has withstood the onslaught of scoffers and doubters for mellenium and has never (I repeat never) been shown to be in error.
And that is an interesting point. Many men have had the chance to corrupt the Bible yet it retains all of the Truth that originally was there. It is not a "feel good" book. It often tells me things that are unpleasant about myself. But do you really think that God is just a "Yes Man"?
The only way that you will be able to make an intelligent, reasoned opinion of the Bible is to read it for yourself. Try to find the contradictions. If you search for the Truth you will find it. Then you will be free indeed.
By the way, many "Scholars" and preachers have called non-believers:
corrupt
liers
evil doers
immoral
ignorant
unintelligent
small minded
close minded
You don't believe that, do you?

The Bible is the most ancient book known to mankind. It is the ancient book or writings with the most supportive manuscripts which verify that it has been accurately copied and translated throughout the centuries of its existence. There are over 70 such manuscripts in existence today, including the Dead Sea Scrolls. Homer's Iliad comes in at a distant second with about a dozen supportive manuscripts. The only books left out are found in the Apocrypha, and for good reason; because their teachings are out of line with the rest of Scripture in their teachings about God. The Bible has produced 100's of detailed prophecies that were written 100's of years before those same prophecies came true with 100 percent accuracy, 100 percent of the time. The Bible is the most persecuted book in the history of man yet it remains steadfast. Even Communist China, Cuba and the former Soviet Union couldn't extinguish it, although they sure tried. The Bible has been verified over and over and over again by archeology and secular history. The Bible claims for itself to be the infallible, immutable, unchangeable, inspired Word of God and to include the actual words of God. The Bible has been sold in more copies, languages and nations than any book in the history of mankind. It is not inconceivable that an omniscient, omnipotent Creator can use fallible humans -through direct inspiration- to record His Holy Word without error. The jews, who wrote all but 2 books of the Bible, are well known for their meticulousness in copying the Bible. There are numerous other excellent reasons I could give you but I think I've more than made my point. I think the real question here should be, how can any intelligent person confronted by such overwhelming evidence not believe the Bible and not believe it's the Word of God?

I am not a Christian so I must admit that I do not hold to the Bible as literal truth, but even though man has undoubtedly tainted the text, there is still truth therein. Every scripture stumbles across the truth at times, even the most remote and obscure book written by a man with no more knowledge of God than an atheist. God is indeed in your heart and soul. The heart and soul, however, recognize truth wherever it is hidden. (Also, one cannot be sure if there were indeed books left out of the text. How do we know that they belonged in the text to begin with? There is an extreme difference between the literary flow of the Bible, and that of the Apocrypha.)

People have faith in God and therefore in the bible. What you say may be true about the bible. That doesn't mean that the messages in the bible are not true. It has been re-written, for sure, has it been entirely been altered. God would know for sure. Although scholars can speculate and research they can NOT say for certain what is the truth. They have educated guesses. That is not enough to shake the faith of many people. These scholars change their opinions from time to time as well. The bible is filled with many valuable lessons either way.
Why does it bother you if people wish to view their bible as credible? You don't have to. Why should people not be allowed to believe whatever they wish.

Dear Princessleonessa,
Despite the different versions. The Word of God is still very relevant to every one of us today and until the end of time.
God is only in your heart and soul IF you receive Him and Follow Him. The only way to KNOW Him is by studying His Word.
Yes it is a chore to know what "version" of the bible is right and true. However, with some time and study, it is possible to understand the message of the bible which is this:
We all mess up and break God's rules
Jesus came to die and take the punishment for us and
through Him we have a way to be reconciled with God.
I love Jesus. I love His Word.
I have a New American Standard Bible which is translated word for word from the original languages. I also rely on my Strong's concordance and a set of lexicons. A lexicon is a dictionary of ancient languages. That way I can do word studies and get further clarification for difficult passages.
I am confident that God's Word is true and credible. I hope you get a chance to study it for yourself. I am willing to help,if you have bible study questions, feel free to contact me.
-Sincerely - Redeemed (by the blood of Jesus)

The Bible has not been turned from truth to lies. It may have been translated using slightly different wording but it was not CHANGED from one thing to another. Everything in it is still true. The holy bible does not have books added or taken out, that is other books from other religions that felt like messing with it, those are not the word of God. The Bible is still the word of God.

Yes, it has been "messed with". But the Bible "is inspired of God" (2Timothy 3:16). It has been published in more than 2,300 languages and is available to more than 90 percent of the world's population. On average, more than 1 million Bibles are distributed each week. Surely, there is no other book like the Bible.

Something to consider - what if the Word of God is meant to be pondered and poured over? What if it isn't the exact words itself (since God isn't limitted by human language) but the meaning behind the words? And what if there were other holy writings besides that Bible that God would smile upon?
This is why I still read and respect the Bible.

If you are in a religion that practices pure worship as approved by God, You will be using the untainted Bible. The Bible is a precious gift from God, like a letter from a loving father to his son. In it you learn the truth about God as to who he is and what he stands for. Guess what! It is the most reliable, dependable source of acquiring knowledge and skills to help you cope with problems, and let you know how to find true happiness. It is the only source of learning what we must do to please God. Please take a momment to look at Psalm 1:1-3 and Isaiah 48:17,18.
The Bible writers were inspired by God to write God;s thoughts and not man's thoughts. Hence the author of the Buble is God....2Tim 3:16,17 and 2 Peter 1:20,21. Our eternal future depends on getting to know God and doing His will despite opposition. The Bible is the only source of getting to know God well.
Draw close to God and He will draw close to you.--

Actually, although some "scholars" don't believe the Bible anymore, its integrity hasn't changed. With the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls, it was proven that nothing had been lost in the translation. That debunks about half of that.
Some of it is allegorical (is that a word?) in nature, but most of it is literal.
Consider the fact that much of the Bible has been corroborated using scientific, medical, historical, AND archaeological evidence...perhaps that's why people such as myself still believe in it.
