I think it's a veiled anti-Christian message.
Here's the "Toys for Tots" Mission Statement from www.toysfortots.org:
MISSION: The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as CHRISTMAS gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. (emphasis added)
Think about it: the Marines say they're not sure what religion (if any) a child might be who receives these toys. The program is to give kids toys for CHRISTMAS. Why would a Muslim, Jewish or atheist child celebrate CHRISTmas?
The military is rapidly becoming secular and this is but one example.

It makes sense to me. As the article states, "Toys for Tots doesn't know anything about the religious affiliations of the children who receive its gifts." Now, like it or not, Chistmas has taken on a very secular aspect and many non-religious or even non-Christian families exchange gifts during this time. If it turns out that the family that receives the toy isn't Christian, then, well honestly it's a bad gift, and Toys for Tots just wants to be sure that all the kids they give presents to are happy. I'd suggest the manufacturer of the dolls donate them to churches so the poor in the congregation can get them.

Good idea. The Marines run Toys for Tots, they are a government organization. Also Christmas is not the only gift giving holiday this time of year and Christians are not the only ones in need. The idea b behind the gift was good but should have been thought out more. Plus, a talking Jesus doll is just a little creepy.

Haha, a talking Jesus doll. That's gotta be a blast to play with. I know if I were a kid, I wouldn't be able to put it down. But to answer your question more legitimately, that is pretty ridiculous. I'm sure if there are people poor enough to be aided by the Toys for Tots people, they'd be happy with any toy. Hell, I'd be happy with a cardboard box and I'm not even poor (I could use more money though).

I think the Toys for Tots people rejected the donation for exactly the right reason. Not all children are Christians. "We can't take a chance on sending a talking Jesus doll to a Jewish family or a Muslim family. Kids want a gift for the holiday season that is fun."

because they do not want to ofend any religous belief.
This country was bassed on the prinsapal that all religons can coexist and thusly no one religion is the true religion of the country.
True the Christian religion is the following that most of the country belives in and follows.
But there are many many other religions that form this great nation and all must be shown equal rights. So not to offend any of them the toys for tots can not accept any toys that show any religous belifes

It's their decision to take things or not. I think it is fine, because they are right that some people may not appreciate it. It was kind of the company, but they should understand the situation for Toys for Tots.

The only reason they did what they did was fear. Plain and simple fear. They did not want to be out of the Circle.
Meaning making enemies and getting the mean eye. Forbid they stand up for what they believe in.
But I have to be honest it does sound odd. No one truly knows how Jesus look, idols are forbidden. I guess the persons heart was in the right place it just came out wrong. Hmmm. Jesus Dolls I'll look into that. God Bless. Love.

Toys for Tots didn't reject the Jesus Doll. It was the people in charge that did.

I'm really glad they had some common sense. I would have been an annoyed child if I got a talking jesus doll. Really, even a jesus doll that doesn't talk would have been bad enough. Well, maybe I wouldn't have minded if he had hair I could brush with outfit changes like my barbies.
