Paul Helms, known as "The Helmsman," founded the Helms Bakery in the 1930s on Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles. The helms trucks always looked alike. They sold his rolls and 5-cent doughnuts from Fresno to San Diego and east to San Bernardino.

You bet. Born in the 50's and grew up in Point Loma. That man would roll out the biggest tray of hot donuts from the back of his truck and all the moms and kids on the block would come out. I also remember the Mission Valley Dairy man, he delivered milk in bottles and cow shaped butter. If you lived in my area you will also remember the fuller brush man, Oren. I knew the same fuller brush man from the sixties until 2000, when he was hit by a car crossing Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.
