Chloroform will take care of that.
I don't know what to do about the nails though.

I bite my nails, too. Everywhere. At school, in the kitchen, in the bathroom, when I'm with friends... My best friend was trying to make me stop by slapping me (slightly) on the face every time I did it. That didn't work. The only thing that made me bite my nails less often was the thought of having disgusting, small nails. What about making her polish her nails? Maybe that will work.

They make nail polish that tastes horrible, (actually its made to stop nail biting) so have her put some on and see if it helps.
However, your money might be better spent trying to figure out why you would secretly know your 16 y/o daughters bathroom habits.
Good luck, with the nail biting! Not sure I can help with the other situation.

Depending on how old she is, you can put something spicy or sour on her nails so that she stops. If she's older, then there's nothing that you can do about it. I still bite my nails and I'm almost 30. The only time that I don't bite my nails is when I go to the salon and get acrylic nails put on. My five yr old does the same thing and I'm having issues with it too but I'm going to try to spicy stuff on her nails. Good luck.

why dont you want her to find out how you know? Thats kinda odd. I would think you could tell your daughter was biting her nails without telling her how you know. You should be able to look at them and tell. They sell stuff at wal-mart you can brush on her nails and it tastes really gross and it stops you from biting your nails. My mom and dad used it on my sister a longggg time ago and it worked and i know they still sell it. Try that.

I am 24 and I just recently got a nail polish from Wal-mart for prevention of biting nails and it works. Since you don't want her to know that you know I really don't know how you could do that.. You just might want to get dad to say something to her.. Good luck

You can't, her fingers her decision. You need to learn to live with it, your daughter is her own person with her own flaws, habits etc. Perhaps a trip to a nail salon for a manicure and decoration may deter her a bit. Ask her to clean up the mess in the bathroom and leave it be otherwise.

Nagging will only make it worse....and of all the bad things teenagers can do, I would be happy this is all she is doing.
However, why not pay for a manicure for her? Let her pick out some cool fake nails and jazzy nail polish?

Tell her you read about a girl who got pin worms from the germs under her finger nails after biting them, that's what my mother told me when I was a child. Worked! Every time I put my finger in my mouth I thought about it

It's not such a horrible habit - not as bad as, say, biting toenails. :P
There's probably not much you can do, except for voicing your concerns and asking her to try and bite less. If she bites them a lot - like every day - it may be due to nervousness or stress, so you could ask her about needing your help with something.
