First of all, you need to find a credit card company that will accept you. Capital One is a great company for beginners. They accept most clients without an established credit history. However, the downside is the interest- it will usually start out around somewhere above 20%. Also, making payments fully and on time will establish some credibility and will make it easier for you to find a credit card.

Credit card companies give credit cards to ANYONE. I've heard of DOGS who were given credit cards. Just have a bank account. And sometimes you don't even need that...

I would speak to your bank. I recently moved to the US from the UK and got a debit card from my bank. Then I got a Visa credit card no problem. All within the last 4 months.
Speak to your bank, they can help you.
Cheers!

Capital One seems to have a very welcoming attitude towards new customers. I had my first credit card with them.
