Harming yourself or others is a very big part of it. Anything that goes against the 10 Commandments. You'll find that these are easy to follow. Most people follow them already. Most laws cover almost all of them. Sin in actuality is a seperation from God. A treason or an act of being unlawful according to the Ten Commandments. Have a great day!

Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral code of conduct or the state of having committed such a violation. In monotheistic religions, the code of conduct is determined by God. Colloquially, any thought, word, or act considered immoral, shameful, harmful, or alienative might be termed "sinful".
Common ideas surrounding sin in various religions include:
-Punishment for sins, either from other people, from God either in life or an afterlife, or from the Universe in general
-The question of whether or not an act must be intentional to be sinful
-The idea that one's conscience should produce guilt for a knowing sin
-A scheme for determining the seriousness of the sin
-Repentance from (expressing regret for and determining not to commit) sin, and atonement (repayment) for past deeds
-The possibility of forgiveness of sins, often through communication with a deity or intermediary; in Christianity often referred to as salvation
Crime and justice are related secular concepts-

Ahhh to comprehend this you want to comprehend the various diverse variety of historic files/myths. 1st a diverse party. An Indigenous crew would have a historic declare to somewhat of land in accordance with a myths putting forward that they were there when you consider that creation. this can fluctuate from the Archaeological list which be able to signify that this crew would were there for one thousand years or so, although the data confirmed diverse cultural communities lived there earlier then. for this reason equals conflict between respecting the Indigenous delusion and the historic data. Now. there is the Xian list to signify sin originated in Eden, yet the different Abrahambic Faiths also percentage those thoughts and characteristic a diverse theory of Sin. So what i'm putting forward that, even as your question is a competent one, there'll be conflict between the Bible list and the socio-historic version of truth. conflict between the declare both Jesus and Eden voters were the first to well known it. .

Noun- 1. transgression of divine law: the sin of Adam.
2. any act regarded as such a transgression, esp. a willful or deliberate violation of some religious or moral principle.
3. any reprehensible or regrettable action, behavior, lapse, etc.; great fault or offense: It's a sin to waste time.
Verb-(used without object) 4. to commit a sinful act.
5. to offend against a principle, standard, etc.
Verb- (used with object) 6. to commit or perform sinfully: He sinned his crimes without compunction.
7. to bring, drive, etc., by sinning: He sinned his soul to perdition.
"Judge not lest you be judged. You therefore have no right to judge me when it comes to my sins!"
The world often takes this verse out of context and uses it to accuse Christians of being "judgmental" when they speak of sin. In the context of the verse Jesus is telling His disciples not to judge one another, something the Bible condemns (Romans 14:10; James 4:11). In Luke 6:41,42 He speaks of seeing a speck in a brother’s eye. In John 7:24 He said, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." If someone steals, lies, commits adultery or murder, etc., the Christian can make a (righteous) moral judgment and say that the actions were morally wrong, and that these sins will have eternal consequences. Chuck Colson said, "True tolerance is not a total lack of judgment. It’s knowing what should be tolerated—and refusing to tolerate that which shouldn’t."
Any questions?

I've heard it described as "missing the mark".
Some actions don't hurt others but hurt ourselves and I think they are "sins" as well. Some sins don't actively hurt others, they are things we left undone or unsaid that didn't lift someone up and so perhaps indirectly hurt another.
This would be a good day to live in appreciation and gratitude and share with our loved ones how much they mean to us.

Deffinition of sin according to mirriam-webster dictionary
transgression of the law of God b : a vitiated state of human nature in which the self is estranged from God
Sin is when you break God's 10 Commandments. It's an action that separate you from God.
1 John 3:8-10
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
The Imperative of Love
10 In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is he who does not love his brother

Actually the Bible teaches that although it is possible to "sin against a brother," all sin is at its roots against God. God is holy and perfect, and sin is anything that strays from that holiness and perfection. That said, God (not our culture, our own sense of fairness, our own wisdom) is the one who tells us what is sinful behavior.
The Bible talks about many sins of the heart, like lustful or malicious thoughts or pride. These types of sins might fall outside of your definition. Sinning against others is just one part of sin.

You are right dearie, you are perfectly aware of sinning.
If you are aware of it, then...you can make an effort not to sin...or say, do minimal sinning...or ask immediate forgiveness of the harmful actions that you just did (to the person you acted upon or to God who had witnessed you sinning)...
Be remorseful/regretful of said actions (promise to God and to yourself like self descipline) that you would TRY not to do this kind of disgraceful acts again in your life...or if said actions will be on the verge of being repeated again...ask God or His angels to make you aware that said actions are bad...so you will be able to suppress such acts...and you won`t do any sinning again repeatedly in your life...then...
eternal pathway to happiness will be laid to you by legions of angels...welcoming you with unending great joy and happiness, singing & dances, great smiles and laughter, beauty & holiness will be yours as you walk with God to eternity.
Please be aware, that sin can be gauged from Thoughts, Words and in Deed...so, be aware of these...and don`t sin.
Guidelines here mentioned, are a bit tedious and long process to reckoned with...but if you try to do it always...getting used to these process of avoiding sins...then, as they say.....Practice makes Perfect !!!
It will be like exercising everyday!...and you will observe later...making a choice of REJECTING satan can be done with much smoothness and ease...not much EFFORT at all.

We just answered this I think 10 minutes ago in another question. Sin separates man from God. It is iniquity- impurities- anything the opposite of Holy and Perfect. God is Holy and perfect and man is sinful--they go against God and brake his commandments- look at his commandments- by disobeying them you are sinning. --wrong doings.
