Gr8 obervation. I have never seen such a beautiful definityion of sin
YES IT a sin to separate anyone from god ...even our own self
Or It is sin to separate our true-self from our ego-self

The word sin just means error. It is an error because it does cause separation from God; so that would follow.

Sin is sin because it often hinders ones relationship with another, even with oneself !

Yesterday my daughter brought home a math test with a 61% grade on it.
I was disappointed, I helped her correct it, we talked about doing homework ...
And, strangely, I didn't feel at all separated from her.
