How would you say "to grandfather"? Not as in the family member, but as in a grandfather clause.

The previous answerers don't get it.

That metaphor doesn't exist in Spanish, so you'd have to translate the actual definition. I'd use something like "otorgar una excepción/prórroga especial" (grant a special exception/extension)
