In my personal point of view, it has a lot do with power and money.
Take the example of Martin Luther King. He was assassinated, when people started to see that he was being heard not only by black people, but by white people as well. Somehow he was gathering people in one single goal: to find peace among humanity. People in high places don't want that to happen. The best way to control society is to keep it ignorant (that's why schools have such bad quality and governments don't invest in education) and fragmented (divide to conquer).
It is a known fact that war is much more profitable than peace. And in this world the only thing that matters is to keep the economy running, no matter what price you have to pay.
There are some fundamentalists that think they have the right to impose their ideas and politics, and only using force they will be able to do it. That's why Ghandi was murdered as well as Isaac Rabin (he was getting somewhere in the issue between Palestine and Israel. There was a chance for peace, but people weren't interested in ending the conflict, so he was murdered in 1995.)
So, this is my opinion that world peace will always be a dream, because no one is interested in it.
Sad, very sad, but true!

simply because if there were peace in the whole of the world the goverements etc would have no jobs i mean what do they actually do apart from cause misery to people, the americans and uk(i live here) 4 example went to pakistan to get rid of saddam hussain that was months ago so why are they still there why dont they let the asains get on with there own way of life, ill tell u why because they want the oil from there country i bet when the oil runs out they will leave the country, pakistanis have a right to live how they want just like every1 else but because we dont understand there way of life were at war with them. just let them live there life and everyone can live peacefully. to be honest i dont think that would work world peace peoples jobs depend on the fact that there is wars between different religions. anyway i no that was sort of to do with ur question take care xxxx

Ever heard of Serpent seed and the seed of the Woman? Check out Genesis 3:13-15.
Consider the violence and vehemence of those who attack passers-by, people minding their own business, and total strangers. Time and again their victims turn out to be decent, peaceable people. You don't have to preach peace to be assaulted. The 'world' that hates the message and the way of peace is that group of thugs who are ruled by the god of this world, Satan, though some of them are convinced they render sacred service to God Almighty. They know what they do and delight in doing it. Unless they repent, blackest darkness is reserved for them.

Because some people's character is so powerful that their mere presence is convicting to those who have not conquered their base natures. The true holiness of a person can make someone feel unworthy, uncomfortable and unclean. These people will sometimes blame the other person rather than see that they themselves must change. So they react according to their base nature, with violence, killing the other person and so protecting their own self image.

Let me get a thumbs down really quickly. Could be Satan. Could be the challenge to those who profit from societal unrest. Could be people trying to read alternative means to their actions.
Anything that will change peoples known and comfortable way of life and is different from their own views is a threat.

people who preach peace often take the stance that peace is more powerful than violence, they are assassinated by people who wish to prove them wrong

old know all, hit the nail on the head....
1Ti 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Because obviously they are preaching to an audience who disagrees with them, their principles, their morals and ethics.
These people obviously disagree with their preachings so much, that they feel the only way to shut them up is to take their life.
Maybe they feel threatened by the decent people?.....
