I tried this (as you do) on my highlights that were a bit washed out from the sea (had gone a bit greenish). Omgness, what a messy job, but it seemed to work! Any similar moments of madness??

I hate to go against the other stylist, but YES I am a stylist, and KETCHUP does work , and does not harm the hair either. I don't know why, but if the green is not too green it does work. How do I know? I tried it myself when mine got greenish from chlorine. I hear it has something to do with the vinegar content. I went to beauty school in the 80's and there were all kinds of home made remedies we learned...from mayonnaise, to tea, to yes ketchup ! The best way to get rid of it though, is with a dechlorinizing treatment you can get at the beauty supply, but it will dry you out.

Actually it is not weird at all. Green and red are opposites on the color wheel. If you put red (ketchup) on green (your highlites) they will cancel each other out. Also, ketchup is acidic and healthy hair is acidic as well. So you toned and conditioned (lowered the pH) your hair in one step. The only problem is, it is temporary.

hmmm...actually green and red are complementary colors. That is, when mixed they neutralize each other. So the red pigment from tomatos in ketchup may work, provided the hair holds on to it.

Ketchup would have not fixed your hair....
And if anyone reads this and gets the idea.
I strongly advise you don't do it.
