Unless you have quite old hardware it's not likely to be SP2 causing this.
Do some other searching for other problems (as well as going back to SP1 if that's what you want to do).

My advice would be to not remove SP2, as this may have dire consequences. Many a computer has died in this process. If your computer was pre-installed with Windows SP1, the best thing you can do is re-format your hard drive, to reset factory settings. Which measn that you will lose ALL of your data, and the computer will be as if it's just come out of the box. You'll need to make sure you back up any data you want to keep, and keep your software disks handy for re-instalation, but this will DEFINITELY get rid of SP2, without causing you untold headaches.

If you haven't deleted all the archive files, you can roll back to SP1. Go to Control Panel > Add and remove programs. Then look through Wndows features.

if you have WindowsXP
- try doing a system restore (Start - All programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore) then follow the instructions
note - make sure you back up any work you've done up to date because you may lose some stuff (depending on how far back you restore your computer to) - if it's music or movies you have downloaded between the present date and the date you select to restore - move those files to another computer or burn to a disc
- you might also want to create a back up disc or boot disc before doing the system restore (as a precaution)

Goto control panel, add remove programs. Near the end of the list find 'Windows XP Service Pack 2' and remove it.
