Easy. Train from Putney (That's the MAIN LINE, Southwest trains, station) to Clapham Junction - frequent service, few minutes journey. Then change to 'Southern' train to Streatham. You have a choice of stations. Streatham Hill or Streatham Common. I don't know where you want in Streatham so check this out. Again, trains are frequent and it shouldn't take much more than 10 minutes.
There, that was easy wasn't it! You don't HAVE to use the underground to travel around London you know!
You could even do the journey by bus in only one change - but this would take much longer (largely due to chronic traffic congestion). So I shouldn't pay too much attention to the person who advocated a taxi....

There isn't an underground station in streatham, so you'll have to get a bus or taxi. My brother lives in streatham and i think he gets the tube to clapham (the northern line) and then has to get a bus to streatham.
