The bible speaks of the Trinity, (God, the creator, Jesus, his son, and the Holy Spirit). It also says that his sheep will know his voice. I'm sure that if you have faith in God, that you will know when the Holy Ghost is speaking to you.

The Holy Spirit usually speaks to us with a thought and not an audible voice. It is a thought that brings peace. What He says always lines up with Scripture.

"Test all things. Hold fast to what is good." 1Thess.5:21. "Behold, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God; Every spirit that says Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God"-1Jn.4:1,2. If you are hearing anything which contradicts any part or teaching of the Bible in any way -Old or New Testament- then it can't be God. If the "spirit" denies that Jesus is the Son of God-God the Son- or denies His sacrifice for sin or denies that He was resurrected from the grave in bodily form or denies He came in the flesh then it's of the devil.Such a spirit is not to be feared, it is to be challenged and defeated through your faith in Jesus Christ, in His name and through the use of the Sword of the Spirit -the Bible

The Holy Spirit usually speaks to me through other people. Sometimes it comes in an intuitive thought, usually during prayer or meditation. It is never in an audible schitzophrenic type of voice- God just doesn't communicate that way. It is subtle. Everyday I ask God for knowledge of his will and the power to carry that out , I ask him to guide my thoughts and actions. If you open the door just slightly - just the smallest bit of faith he will reveal more and you will begin to become aware of Gods presence in your life. Seek and you shall find. Don't knock it until you try it.

I used to think the Holy Spirit talks to people, but now I believe what those people is just emotion. The mind can play funny tricks on you.

Well another reason why the Bible is so important! If it goes against what the Bible says- it is not of God- which means the Holy Spirit is not speaking- but rather the enemy is trying to lead you astray.

That is why it says in Acts to "search the scriptures daily" it is our spiritual food. And the Holy Spirit does teach the truth to those who PRAY for wisdom through the Spirit of God while reading the Bible. Staying in context of scripture and relying solely on God and not ourselves- some want to get what they want to hear out of the Bible, so they make the scriptures mean what they want- when we need to be relying on God to teach us no matter what we want to hear-

I have to assume that you have asked Jesus to forgive you and into your heart.. if this is the case.. and you are unsure the best answer is to pray.. and read the bible, the holy spirit will never tell you anything that contradicts with the teachings of Jesus.

In my experience, God talks to you usually in times of crisis , worry or great changes. With me, it's always an internal voice, never something booming out of the clouds. Keep your faith and believe in God. If you are correct, you will lead a good moral life and have an eternal life after death. If the naysayers above are right, at least you will have led a good life. On the other hand , if I am right, they face an eternity without God. My definition of Heaven is eternity with GOD.

He speaks in a still small voice and will never contradict the Word. Check it out if it lines up with the Bible.
