has anyone had a problem with these before? i wear contact lenses and seem to get recurring styes in the winter time. think it might be the dry air...anyone have this experience or found a solution beyond warm compresses and teabags? thanks-

My sister used to get them a lot when she was younger until my mother took her to the Dr. and he did a little in office procedure She hasn't gotten any since. Every once in a while when I got them when I was younger my mom used to put a penny in a cup of really really (as hot as you can take it) water with salt in it. Then I would put it on the spot where I had the stye. Weird I know, but that usually made them go away.

Recurring Styes

I've also been having frequent recurring eye styes and wear contact lenses. I've been getting them roughly every 3-4 weeks. I've already been to my doctor twice and they've prescribed me 2 various topical eye ointments. Even though these ointments do help reduce pain and inflammation they haven't done anything to stop the styes from occuring. The doctor believed that if my stye were to "rupture" and pus out then i would stop getting them, but the things is that i constantly have them end right before rupture. I just got one this morning, and everyone who has ever had one knows how painful and just down right annoying it can be. I will see my doctor again today, but i think the stage i'm looking into now is getting is surgically removed

Styes are contagious so while you have one you probably should wear your glasses and not your contacts. Also you should see your doc or eye doc when you have one to be sure this is what you really have. Since they are caused by a bacteria that means the dry air does not have anything to do with them. When you have a stye be sure to keep you hands away from your eye or wash your hands well with soap and water after touching your eye so you don't spread the bacteria. When you wash your face be sure no one else uses the same washcloth you use and don't don't wash both eyes with the same cloth. If a stye is really bad you may need to get a prescription eye med from the doc to take care of it.

Take a wash textile, pour extremely warm water over it. position this in a gallon zip lock baggie. position over eye. it is painful yet facilitates lots. keep it there see you later as you may without hurting your self badly.

Great question. My daughter got them about this time last year and would get one after another on alternating eyes and then they just stopped. Now she is starting to get them again. She's on her second one now. Thanks for asking this question.

They can be very stubborn...see an eye doctor...they may be able to give you an antibiotic or even perhaps "drain" it.
