Yes most definitely. I would never renounce the Lord even to save my life. I would expect my child to not renounce the Lord either.

It sounds like they simply lied to their captors about renouncing America and Christianity, in hopes that they would be released.
God forgives.
Odd question. I have read the bible, and you must separate the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) from the rest of the bible if you are truly to get a picture of what Christianity is suppposed to be about. Christianity is supposed to be based on the gospels, not the reast of the bible.
There are a lot of folk calling themselves Christians who do not seem to be, at least not according to what it says in the gospels.
Have you read the gospels? Also have you read the Koran?
I have read both, and am a Christian. If the religion of islam is based on the Koran, then islam is not a religion of peace. Christianity, correctly practiced, is.
To answer your question, I hope that I would refuse to denounce my God and my country, but I think I would probably wuss out and tell them whatever they wanted to hear.
That's all I have for now.
May you come to know the Lord Jesus and have a peaceful eternity.

I like to believe that I would calmly die for Jesus rather than "convert" to Islam to save myself but I haven't been in that situation and don't know if I would choke. Even a man of Peter's conviction (who actually saw Jesus perform miracles!) denied Him because he was afraid of going to prison. For a person with weak or no religious convictions, it's probably an easier choice to pretend to convert and then deny after you're safe. I think it would nag at you if you had a strong faith and faltered in the face of death.

I don't think one can really say unless they are in that position. I know for certain if I had no children or family I would never deny my beliefs in God and Jesus. However, throw family in the mix, and the story changes. I believe God knows your heart and may be understanding if you did not want to leave your family without a father, and if you superficially went through the motions to obtain release. No one can judge, only God.

Easier said than done of course, but hopefully I'm ready not only to die but to be tortured to death rather than turn my back on Christ. I would definitely want my children to do the same, the question reminds me of the child in china who was told by the communists that if he didn't renounce Christianity his parents (who were across the room from him) would be killed. His parents both begged him to be loyal to Jesus and let them be killed.

Yes, and to the people who said they wouldnt, your a liar. You are probably some punk kid who knows nothing. Your first order of business is to be alive so you can take care of your family and freinds. This is why we live and it is why we are in Iraq. I was there and I certainly would have done the same thing. I was fortunate.

God knows what's in your heart.
I believe it's quite possible to fool your captors into thinking you've converted to Islam and renounced Christianity when, in fact, you've done no such thing.
The mental equivalent of crossing your fingers behind your back.

No, I would have died for Jesus and gone to heaven then accept a grisly cult like Islam. My children are Christian and they would be in heaven rather then my daughter ending up with a life of rape and my son a killer.

I believe God forgives them for that. Peter was told by Jesus that he would deny him 3 times. Peter swore he would never do it! But he did just as Jesus told him he would. Peter was forgiven before he ever did it and went on to be a teacher of Christ.

Who knows what they would do in that situation. I would like to think I would rather die but could I be so brave. I hope I never have to make that decision.
