I will be in nyc over new years eve and want to see something really off off broadway (i.e.- cheap). Any ideas. THanks a lot in advance!

Your best bet is to pick up a copy of Time Out New York for that week and check their listings. They have sections for both Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway. The shows might have different performance schedules that week to allow for holiday time off.
There are some good theaters who regularly have good programing for $10 - $20 ticket prices that you should definitely check for:
