It isn't just the warmth that affects the maple (and other deciduous) trees - it is the shortening of days and lengthening of night that triggers the falling of leaves.

Oh Dear God yes. I live in Alabama and have 2 maple trees in my front yard. I had our yard guy get the leaves up Friday afternoon. By Friday evening you couldn't see the lawn again. They're beautiful when the leaves change but they are very messy.
