It could be because the RCC can affect your glands. My husband had a nephrecotomy in 93 then had a salivary gland in the right side of his face removed in 2000 and it proved to be RCC. He now has a RCC tumor in his chest that is wrapped around his esophagus and is inoperable. He was on Interferon injections for a year and that shrunk the tumor so now he just has to be watched very carefully. I'm not sure if your doctor told you that you can never get rid of RCC, you WILL have an occurrence, it is hereditary and you should be very careful about getting your check ups. Ill bet he is worried about metastases. My doctor asks those questions every three months. He then does a ct scan to see if i have any new growth!

He's checking for signs of infection.
