It sounds like you knew exactly what was happening to your gun at all times...you might not have been there with your buddy commiting the crime, but you sure didn't stop it. Your buddy could definitely use your gun as a defence and say it wasn't even his, that you gave it to him...and that in fact it was you who made up the whole scheme to commit "the crime." Do you see what kind of trouble your buddy could get you in? All because you knew about your gun being in his posession.
Remember how you said that person had it coming?
What goes around, comes around and it just so happens that it's coming around to you.

It sounds like you commited the crime. "The person had it coming.", only criminals would say that. How did someone get a hold of your gun? Did you report it stolen? If you reported it stolen,(before the crime was committed) then you don't have anything to worry about.

How do you know your gun was used in a crime? Did you give this guy the gun? If the police caught the guy and it wasn't you, then why worry about it, unless you indeed did supply this person with the gun.

First, what would Red Foreman say? "Dumb ***!"
Second, get a lawyer and go to the police department having jurisdiction for the crime with the gun & the lawyer.
Third, you may be screwed as it was your gun. Do not hide or discard it as you'd be in more trouble as an accessory after the fact.

you have two options...
the first is go to the police! tell them the whole story and testify against your friend.
the second option is GET RID OF THE GUN!!! If the gun was fired during the crime they will be able to trace the markings on the bullet to the markings on the inside of the barrel... dig a deep hole in your backyard and throw the gun in it... it no longer has any resale value and if you keep it your asking for trouble!
