Try leaving her with Kongs stuffed with treats to keep her amused while you are out. Build up the length of time you leave her as her confidence grows, only leaving her for short lengths of time to start with. Don't forget the dog is a pack animal and in the wild being isolated from the pack can lead to death so its no wonder she finds it a bit scary to start with.

Your dog sounds like she's suffering separation anxiety. There's a number of things that may help, depending on her age/breed etc. One thing that seems to work for puppies is burying a ticking alarm clock under a blanket in her bed, this imitates the mothers heartbeat. Or you could leave her with an old sweater or item of clothing that smells of you, this sometimes helps. Also a radio or tv on can make all the difference. Crate training as suggested earlier can help loads but if its an older dog it may cause stress if not done slowly - its not a quick result. Ring a local dog trainer and ask some advice, most dont charge for telephone advice, or get one out to assess the situation professionally.
Good luck :-)

There was a dog like this on channel 4's its me or the dog. They said it was separation anxiety.
They had to start getting there coats/shoes on or whatever it was the dog associated with them going out. Then once you have your coat on, dont go out...do this a few times so he starts being less anxious even before you leave him.
Then start going out the front door for a few minutes and then come back in. ALL the time you are doing this dont give the dog attention, i.e. dont make a fuss of him when you are leaving or coming back in as this strenthens the separation anxiety.
Eventually leave him for longer periods, making no fuss. It did seem to work in the program.
Good luck

I think the best thing to get her used to being left on her own is trying this very easy method that helped me. What you have to do is shut her in a room for 5 minutes then go back in and give her a fuss, try that a few times each time incresing her time alone. Eventually she will learn that you are coming back for her so there is no need to worry. This method takes patience as the process time varies for different dogs but stick at it and you will both feel alot less stressed about being parted. Good Luck

Crate train your animal. You can learn about crate training all over the place on the internet. My dog was a nutcase. It took two weeks of consistently leaving her in the crate (when I was gone, when I was home, all the time she was in the crate to teach her to stop freaking out. I took her out on leash to play outside and potty, but if we were in the house, she was in her crate - shaking, crying, destroying things, biting the crate. She was nutz. It took 2 weeks and she now doesn't cry, crates on command, chooses her crate voluntarily to get away from the other dog/cats.
Hardest 2 weeks of my life, but it made my dog much more confident and secure.
Crate train your dog, it's a rough start, but worth it's weight in doggie gold.

A animal is at least a 15 to 20 yr. commitment. People need to realize this before getting a pet. crying when you leave is just one of the many problem of owing a dog. get another dog to keep yours company. it might solve the problem. But it sure to cause different ones. Next time get a CAT. pretty much maintenance free.

I would have to agree with Ross S... try leaving your scent around the house.
Also- my parents always leave the TV on for the dogs so they think some one is there with them.
I wish you luck.

Try leaving a radio on low, or leaving something with your smell on it for her. (like something you have worn)
